Former Manchester United star Andy Cole has, on Sunday, revealed his long-standing frustrations with the form of a current member of the Red Devils’ attacking ranks.
The player in question? Anthony Martial.
The subject of frontman Martial’s efforts, of course, has continued to take its place front and centre in the chatter on the red half of Manchester over the early weeks of the new season.
This comes with the Frenchman, in the absence of the sidelined Rasmus Hojlund, having been afforded a pair of starts as Erik ten Hag’s attacking spearhead.
As has long proven the case, however, Martial has continued to struggle, failing to notch a single goal contribution across a trio of appearances.
Such woes have seen the former AS Monaco talent come in for a fresh wave of criticism on the part of the United faithful, amid fresh calls for him to be moved on at the earliest opportunity.
Speaking in an interview with BetFred, Andy Cole, who managed just shy of a goal every two league outings across his stint at Old Trafford, took aim at Martial for his record in front of goal:
“Martial has been at Manchester United for 8 years now and he hasn’t even scored 100 goals,” the ex-England international began. “It’s incredible. He is a centre-forward at Manchester United and he has played in some fantastic teams.
“His best performance in the league was 17 goals. He’s had more than enough time and opportunity to show United just how good he is and he unfortunately hasn’t been able to do so.”
