Southgate is currently overseeing his third major tournament with the Three Lions.

The former Middlesbrough boss has previously guided England to a World Cup semi-final and the final of the European Championships.

However, Southgate has plenty of distractors, mainly due to his poor choice in substitutes and his defensive style of play.

But he is seemingly still a major upgrade on the previous manager, Roy Hodgson, with Marcus Rashford recently hitting out at the training under the ex-Crystal Palace man: “Training has been good for the lads that haven’t been getting as many minutes. But I feel like, for this squad, it has never really been an issue, especially since Gareth’s been managing.

“Maybe before it was a little bit of an issue in terms of quality of training and people’s dedication to training but since he’s been manager of England, it’s been good. It’s been intense, it’s been challenging and I feel like everyone, me included, is ready to do their bit when they come onto the pitch if they get an opportunity.”

Rashford added: “Obviously I was only there for a short period of time before [Southgate] but the standard of training wasn’t as high.
