Yasin Ayari stunned Manchester City with an early goal to give Brighton a 1-0 lead in their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Sweden international fired Fabian Hurzeler’s side ahead after a cross into the City penalty area took a deflection and fell kindly into his path.
Ayari made the most of the opportunity to put the visitors in front, leaving Enzo Maresca’s side with work to do as they looked to maintain their impressive home record.
It was another impressive start at the Etihad for Brighton, who had already caused City problems when the two sides met in the Carabao Cup just three days earlier.
The Seagulls twice took the lead in that encounter, with Malick Yalcouye and Georginio Rutter finding the net, before City recovered to draw 2-2 and progress on penalties.
Brighton arrived in Manchester as the Premier League’s highest scorers, having struck 23 times in their opening eight league matches.
City, meanwhile, were looking to bounce back after losing their perfect Premier League record the previous weekend.
