Preview for Inter Miami v FC Cincinnati
Inter Miami’s winning run came to a crashing halt in New Jersey. Now Kily González’s side need a response, as they host FC Cincinnati at Nu Stadium on Wednesday night, aiming to avoid back-to-back MLS regular-season defeats for the first time since 2023.
Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls ended a three-game winning streak. A Casemiro own goal put Miami behind, and Emil Forsberg wrapped up the win for the hosts. Miami, who lead the league with 73 goals, managed just one shot on target all night.
Lionel Messi played just over half an hour after dashing back from Spain, and his run of 14 straight games with at least one goal or assist came to an end.
The defeat has made things tighter in the race for the top playoff seeds. Miami are now third in the East, level on points with second-placed New England but behind them on goal difference, and only four points clear of Chicago Fire in fourth.
Cincinnati arrive in much better spirits. They won 2-0 at DC United at the weekend, their second straight victory, as they push to climb into the top seven in the East. They sit eighth with 42 points.
Kévin Denkey is their main threat, with 17 goals this season, and Evander has created 82 chances.
Recent history between the sides is mixed. Miami are unbeaten in their last two home games against Cincinnati and haven’t conceded in either. Cincinnati, though, have taken points in three of their last four trips to Miami.
