WATCH: Rudoni makes Coventry history as Hornicek pays penalty

Jack Rudoni scored Coventry City‘s first Premier League goal at the CBS Arena as his penalty gave them a 1-0 lead over Newcastle United.

The Sky Blues, back in the top flight for the first time since 2001 when they played at Highfield Road, claimed their first win of the season before the international break with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

They had yet to find the net in their opening two home games, but they ended that duck in the sixth minute against the Magpies, with Rudoni gifted the opportunity to do so by an error from Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.

Hornicek failed to gather a loose ball in the penalty area under pressure from Ephron Mason-Clark, and in attempting to regather he was beaten to it by Sidiki Cherif, who went tumbling under the Czechia international’s challenge.

The referee showed little hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Rudoni made no mistake, sending Hornicek the wrong way to break the deadlock.

Harvey Barnes had the first chance for Newcastle, who started the game 11th in the Premier League but with the chance to go fourth with a win, but spurned the opportunity to equalise following good work down the left from Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
