Preview for Coventry v Newcastle
Second-from-bottom Coventry host Newcastle on Monday hoping to pick up where they left off before the extended international break.
Frank Lampard’s side recorded their first Premier League win this term – and the club’s first in 25 years – when they edged out Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on 19 September.
Jay Dasilva’s solitary strike was also the first the Sky Blues have scored in the top-flight in a quarter of a century, on what was a memorable evening for last season’s Championship winners.
Lampard admitted the victory came as a “relief” but insisted his players have “shown they can do it” in the Premier League.
He added that he has seen progression in his team but he is “not overly satisfied” with just one win in five matches so far this season.
“There will be things that they will naturally learn as they go and my job is to be there to support them and understand if they keep going, keep working, belief will grow with that,” Lampard said.
Newcastle, meanwhile, will similarly be hoping to maintain their pre-international break form, following a 2-1 win over Hull City three weeks ago.
The Magpies have experienced a steady start to the campaign under new boss Matthias Jaissle, however, it was a miserable last away outing for the German, as his side suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Leeds United.
Jaissle insisted he is “finally settled” in the north east after moving into his apartment during the break.
Speaking about their hosts ahead of the match, Jaissle acknowleged that Coventry have “momentum” and “confidence”, but said that if his players perform at their best, “it will be difficult to beat us”.
He was also full of praise for Sky Blues head coach Lampard, who he called a “pure legend” and one of the players he looked up to.

Team News for Coventry v Newcastle
Coventry could see the return of right wing-back Milan van Ewijk to the squad following a hamstring injury. Alhough the 26-year-old may have to settle for a place on the bench, with Lampard unlikely to start him over Caleb Yirenkyi.
Kaine Kesler-Hayden has also returned to fitness, but as the Englishman has not featured in any capacity since May, it’s unlikely he’ll be thrown straight back in the fray.
The likes of Haji Wright, Luke Woolfenden, Josh Eccles and Aurele Amenda are all still sidelined, while Taiwo Awoniyi completes a three-game suspension following his sending-off in the Brighton battering.
As for Newcastle, Jaissle has revealed that he expects “three or four” injured players to be back in contention for Monday’s trip, including Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez.
It has been hinted that at least one of Jacob Ramsey, Amar Dedic, Anthony Elanga, Dan Burn, Will Osula, Lewis Miley, and Tino Livramento could make the bench at least.
However, Ewen Jaouen (hamstring) has been ruled out for up to two months.

Despite there being a buzz around the hosts following their first league victory of the season, but their lack of firepower in front of goal may just mean Newcastle edge this one.
