Chelsea v Bournemouth: Blues make club history with two goals in 149 seconds

Chelsea scored two goals in 149 seconds to take command of their Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

Having had three weeks to stew on their 3-0 loss to Brentford before the international break, Chelsea made a lightning fast start to their bid to get back on track at Stamford Bridge.

They opened the scoring after just 66 seconds, veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson scoring his first goal for the Blues as he fired in off the post following excellent work from Cole Palmer, who signed a new contract with the club this week.

And the lead was doubled in rapid fashion as, after Pedro Neto was denied by Djordje Petrovic, the Bournemouth goalkeeper was once again left helpless as Morgan Rogers’ curling effort was deflected in by Antonio Silva.

The goal, which was subject to a VAR check for offside, was initially given as a Silva own goal before being awarded to Rogers.

With just two minutes and 29 seconds on the clock, Chelsea’s two-goal advantage marked the earliest the Blues have been 2-0 up in a Premier League match. However, given their tendency for leaking goals under Xabi Alonso this season, their advantage could not be considered a decisive one at such an early stage.
