Julian Alvarez is considering ending his long-standing relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo.
The Argentina international worked with Hidalgo for almost a decade, but Alvarez and his family are now assessing alternative representation following a turbulent summer surrounding his future.
According to AS, the striker’s inner circle has been searching for a new agency since the transfer window closed, with his father Gustavo Alvarez playing an important role in the process.
An Argentine agency with links to former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore is reportedly leading the race to represent Alvarez.
Negotiations are said to have reached an advanced stage, although an agreement has not yet been formally signed.
Atletico defended Alvarez after transfer saga
Alvarez was heavily linked with a move away from Atletico, with Barcelona and Arsenal among the clubs associated with the forward.
Despite the speculation, he remained in Madrid after the transfer deadline and is under contract with Atletico until 2030.
The situation created tension around the club, although Atletico’s hierarchy reportedly did not blame Alvarez himself for how events unfolded.
Chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin publicly defended the striker at the end of August and suggested attempts had been made to mislead the player during the transfer saga.
A change in the striker’s representation could therefore help ease some of the tension surrounding his future and reset his relationship with Atletico following the events of the summer.
Alvarez focused on Argentina duty
For now, Alvarez is concentrating on his responsibilities with Argentina rather than the uncertainty surrounding his representation.
The forward is away with the national team as they prepare to face Benin in a fixture expected to have added significance because of Lionel Messi’s final appearance.
Messi has been an important influence on Alvarez during his international career, with the pair playing alongside each other during Argentina’s recent period of success.
Alvarez is expected to return to Madrid at the end of the week, when attention will again turn towards his future off the pitch.
