Tottenham have been handed a positive update on Micky van de Ven after the defender was forced off during the Netherlands’ 2-1 Nations League win over Serbia.
Van de Ven suffered a hand injury after Serbia striker Luka Jovic landed on him during Sunday’s match and was unable to continue.
The sight of the Spurs captain leaving the pitch provided another potential injury concern for Roberto De Zerbi ahead of the return of Premier League football.
However, Netherlands head coach Xavi played down the severity of the problem after the match, describing it as “not a big problem.”
Spurs travel to Old Trafford looking for their first Premier League win of the season after a difficult opening five matches.
King backs Van de Ven as Tottenham captain
Former Tottenham captain Ledley King believes Van de Ven has developed into the right player to lead the club.
King praised the Netherlands international’s individual qualities but believes the next stage of his development will involve raising the standards of those around him.
“I think he’s a fantastic player. His new role now is to make the players around him better,” King said.
“I think Micky takes care of himself. His ability to recover and put fires out is something we’ve seen over the last few years. That’s an important element for the team.
“So, I think the next role is to manage the group and get the best out of the group as a team.
“He’s grown into the role. Having seen Micky on the pitch, he leads by example, for sure and I think he was the right choice to be captain.”
