Preview for Greece v Germany

Greece will look to complete a UEFA Nations League double over Germany when the two sides meet in Thessaloniki on Sunday night.

The hosts sit top of League A Group 2 with seven points from their opening three matches, while Germany are third with four points after recording their first win of the campaign against Serbia.

Greece have enjoyed an excellent start to their 2026-27 Nations League campaign, collecting seven points from their opening three matches to move to the top of Group 2.

Ivan Jovanovic’s side began with a 2-1 win away against Serbia before producing one of the biggest results in their recent history by beating Germany 1-0.

Germany, meanwhile, finally claimed their first win under Jurgen Klopp by beating Serbia 2-0 on Thursday.

Klopp’s reign began with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands before Greece spoiled his first home game in charge with a 1-0 victory.

The former Liverpool boss responded by making significant changes against Serbia, and the decision paid off as Tom Bischof scored his first senior international goal before Florian Wirtz added the second.

The result leaves Germany on four points from three matches and gives them an opportunity to move level with Greece by taking all three points in Thessaloniki.

Team News for Greece v Germany

Greece are set to be without Christos Tzolis after the Arsenal attacker suffered a hamstring injury during the 2-2 draw with the Netherlands.

Tzolis has left the Greece camp and returned to his club for further assessment, ruling him out of Sunday’s game.

Germany are without a number of established players, including Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala.

Klopp used the win over Serbia as an opportunity to assess some of the less experienced members of his squad and could continue that approach in Thessaloniki.

Florian Wirtz should retain his place after scoring and assisting against Serbia, while Serge Gnabry is another experienced attacking option available to the Germany boss.

Prediction for Greece v Germany

Greece have been one of the standout teams in the group so far and have already shown they are capable of causing Germany problems.

Jovanovic’s side will be confident on home soil after taking seven points from their opening three matches, although the loss of Tzolis removes an important attacking option.

Germany finally showed signs of progress under Klopp against Serbia, but Sunday’s game represents a more difficult test against a Greece side that have already beaten them once during this international window.
