Manchester City have been found guilty on all but one of their 115 charges relating to breaches of the Premier League‘s financial rules.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that the sanctions have not been decided. City are unsurprisingly expected to appeal.
The case has been ongoing for several years, having first been brought in February 2023 after the Premier League accused City of breaching a number of financial rules.
Manchester City have continued to insist that they have acted properly throughout the process and rejected the allegations made against them.
A club spokesperson told said: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.
“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
Sanctions and appeal remain to come
The findings do not represent the end of the process, with sanctions still to be determined and City expected to challenge the outcome.
The possible punishment has not been confirmed and could depend on the commission’s final decisions in relation to the individual charges.
However, sanctions such as fines or points deductions, up to Premier League expulsion, are all on the cards.
