Gameweek 1 is in the books, and while one weekend should not completely change your plans, it has given us a clearer picture of who looks sharp, who has a secure role and which teams may be worth targeting.
Going into Gameweek 2, these are five players catching the eye for different reasons. There are penalty takers, DEFCON options, attacking picks and a couple of lower-owned punts – all with a decent case to make ahead of the deadline.
1. Igor Thiago

Igor Thiago is an easy hold – and a strong buy for managers who started without him. His Gameweek 1 penalty miss will have frustrated owners, but it may also keep his ownership lower than it should be. The important point is that he was still trusted with the penalty. Brentford’s attack also looks increasingly well built, with El Hadji Malick Diouf reportedly close to joining to provide quality delivery from the left.
Thiago then scored in Brentford’s 6-1 Carabao Cup win at Birmingham, a useful reminder of his goal scoring threat. Leeds away is not an automatic target fixture, but Thiago is a focal-point striker with nailed minutes and a proven Premier League goalscorer.
2. Mamadou Sangaré

Mamadou Sangaré rewarded the pre-season hype emphatically in Gameweek 1. His 14-point haul included two assists, DEFCON points and three bonus points, with 13 defensive contributions showing that the return was not based solely on a fortunate attacking moment. He also added an assist during Brentford’s midweek win at Birmingham, extending an excellent opening week.
Despite that start, Sangaré remains owned by only around 7% of managers, so there is still genuine upside in buying early. His appeal is not only attacking: his defensive output gives him a valuable scoring floor in matches where Brentford do not dominate. At 5.6m, he looks like one of the best-value set and forget midfielders in the game.
3. Christos Tzolis

Christos Tzolis delivered on the pre-season promise with an eye-catching Premier League debut and an assist in Gameweek 1. Arsenal’s new winger looked lively, and his 6.5m price makes him one of the most accessible ways into an attack that should create plenty of opportunities over the season. He now travels to Aston Villa, a side that have looked vulnerable early on.
Tzolis is no longer an unknown differential – his ownership is now around 26% – but that should not prevent managers from buying a player if the price, role and team are right. Early data shows encouraging underlying involvement too, with three shots in the box and three chances created in his first appearance. At 6.5m, he remains a strong buy.
4. Omar Marmoush

Omar Marmoush is a conditional Gameweek 2 target: only consider him if FPL officially reclassifies him as a Tottenham player before the deadline and there is credible confirmation of his role. At 7.0m, he would be an exciting route into Spurs’ attack, potentially with penalty involvement and a chance of immediate starts in a side with good upcoming fixtures.
The attraction is the ownership. At roughly 1%, Marmoush would offer genuine differential potential without needing an extreme squad compromise. A regular starting role would give him a high ceiling, particularly if he is used centrally and involved around the penalty area. However, do not buy purely on transfer speculation. Wait for the deal, his FPL club update and clear team-news confirmation – otherwise, his minutes remain too uncertain for an immediate move.
5. Tarik Muharemović

Tarik Muharemović is a more understated Gameweek 2 target, but he offers an excellent potential floor against Brentford. Leeds have looked competitive defensively, including an away clean sheet at Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 1, while Muharemović has already shown a useful all-round FPL profile through defensive contributions, assist potential and bonus involvement
Projections rank him highly among the Gameweek 2 defenders for a strong DEFCON output could give him a four-point base – even without a clean sheet. If Leeds can contain an in-form Brentford attack, the upside becomes considerable: clean sheet and DEFCON could turn him into a double-digit scorer. He is not the safest transfer, but he is a smart value play for managers looking beyond safe ownership.
