Real Madrid 4-1 Real Sociedad: Report, result, goals from La Liga

Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid made it two wins from two under Jose Mourinho by beating Real Sociedad 4-1 in the first home game of his second spell in charge.

There was already a celebratory mood in the Santiago Bernabeu as Madrid’s Marc Cucurella and Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal were honoured before kick-off for their role in Spain’s World Cup win.

Mbappe delighted the home crowd with his first goal of the new LaLiga season to break the deadlock in the 40th minute, only for Luka Sucic to level four minutes later. 

Mbappe restored Madrid’s lead on the hour mark, before Vinicius Junior gave them breathing room.

Vinicius then teed up Mbappe to complete his hat-trick 10 minutes from time and end the game as a contest before Brahim Diaz had a goal disallowed for offside late on.

Oyarzabal forced an early save from Courtois before Vinicius wasted a huge chance by shooting straight at Alex Remiro after being played through by Mbappe.

Sergio Gomez went close to a wonder strike for the visitors when his sublime volley whistled wide of the far post, but the visitors fell behind soon after as Mbappe fired into the top-left corner after brilliantly controlling a driven ball in from Federico Valverde.

But Sociedad stunned the Bernabeu when Sucic drilled into the bottom-right corner just before half-time.

Mbappe failed to beat Remiro one-on-one three minutes into the second half, but he restored Madrid’s lead in style as he bent beyond the Sociedad shot-stopper following a blistering one-two with Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham was the provider again as Vinicius made it 3-1, the Brazilian tapping in after a brilliant show of strength in the area from the England star.

Mbappe then completed his hat-trick, collecting a superb Vinicius pass and chipping over Remiro after Scoiedad failed to clear properly from a corner, the treble marking his sixth in all competitions for Los Blancos.

Diaz thought he rounded off the rout when he converted on the rebound after Carlos Espi saw a shot saved, but was denied as a VAR check saw the goal chalked off.

Sociedad made four alterations from their defeat at home to Betis four days earlier, bringing in Benat Turrientes, the prolific Mikel Oyarzabal, Job Ochieng and Luken Beitia for Igor Zubeldia, Carlos Soler, Ander Barrenetxea and Orri Oskarsson.

Oyarzabal scored 15 league goals last season and had made his first appearance since winning the World Cup with Spain as a substitute against Betis.
