Josko Gvardiol has signed a new contract at Manchester City that ties him to the club until 2031.
The Croatia international, who can operate at left-back or centre-half, joined City from RB Leipzig in 2023 and has made 122 appearances in all competitions, helping the club claim the Premier League title as well as the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
The 24-year-old told the club’s official website: “As soon as I knew City wanted to renew my contract, I felt straight away it was what I wanted.
“The City fans have been unbelievable with me from day one – and the club provide absolutely everything for players. It’s the best club in the world to be at.
“I have felt so much love and respect during my three years here and I don’t take that for granted.
“The players we have here are amazing. This is a world-class squad that is young and full of potential. I truly believe we will have a lot of success in the coming years.”
Injuries disrupted Gvardiol’s progress at City last season
Gvardiol suffered a broken shinbone against Chelsea in January that saw him miss the bulk of the second half of last season but he recovered in time to play for Croatia at the World Cup.
And director of football Hugo Viana is excited at what the former Dinamo Zagreb man will produce over the coming years under new boss Enzo Maresca.
Viana said: “Josko is a player this club really believes in. He is young, an outstanding professional and already one of the best defenders in the world.

Gvardiol will be a key figure for Maresca with City losing John Stones and Nathan Ake over the summer.
