Spain superstar Lamine Yamal missed training on Thursday ahead of the World Cup final against Argentina.
La Roja have the chance to win a second World Cup on Sunday in New York/New Jersey, which will play host to a blockbuster first and potentially only meeting between Yamal and Argentina’s Lionel Messi, whose mantle the 19-year-old looks to be assuming at Barcelona.
Spain are the favourites to lift the trophy having comfortably seen off France 2-0 on Tuesday. Argentina required a dramatic late comeback to beat England 2-1 and keep their title defence alive.
But there was some concern for Luis de la Fuente’s men as Yamal and Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro, scorer of the second goal against France, sat out training three days before the final.
Yamal was seen with strapping on his left leg, but it is believed that both he and Porro are only nursing minor discomfort.
Though he produced an improved showing in Spain’s defeat of France, Yamal has registered just one goal involvement at this first World Cup. That came when he found the net against Saudi Arabia in the group stage.
Yamal had a goal disallowed against France, with a strike that would have made it 3-0 chalked off for a marginal offside.
