Agent of Enzo Fernandez confirms midfielder exploring move away from Chelsea this summer

Enzo Fernandez’s agent has confirmed the Chelsea midfielder is considering his options ahead of the summer transfer window, casting uncertainty over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

The Argentina international is currently focused on World Cup duty, but discussions are taking place behind the scenes regarding a potential move away from West London.

Fernandez remains under contract until 2032 and the club are not actively seeking to sell one of their key players, although speculation surrounding his future has continued to grow.

His representative, Javier Pastore, suggested that while no deal is close, opportunities are being explored.

“Today the player is calmly thinking about the national team,” Pastore said.

“He is only thinking about that and we are looking at possibilities to leave Chelsea, but there is nothing firm or confirmed at any club.”

Real Madrid links continue

Fernandez has frequently been linked with Real Madrid and those rumours intensified after comments he made during the March international break.

The midfielder admitted at the time that he liked the Spanish giants, remarks which reportedly led to him being left out of Chelsea’s next two matches.

Pastore dismissed suggestions that Fernandez’s visits to Madrid should be interpreted as a sign that a transfer is imminent.

“He has many friends there, and he is very close friends with Julian Alvarez,” he said.

“And I also live in Madrid. Every time he travelled, he travelled to see me and to sort out work-related matters.”

Chelsea keen to keep key midfielder

Chelsea celebrate an Enzo Fernandez goal at Liverpool

Chelsea remain reluctant to lose Fernandez, who has become a central figure since arriving from Benfica in a club-record deal worth £107m in February 2023.

The 25-year-old has contributed 19 goals and 17 assists in 117 Premier League appearances and is viewed as an important part of the club’s future plans.

Sources indicate Chelsea expect Fernandez to return for pre-season training as scheduled following his post-World Cup break.

The uncertainty comes during a busy summer for the Blues, with new manager Xabi Alonso beginning work at the club and recruitment plans already underway.

Chelsea are continuing their efforts to strengthen the squad, with interest in Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka among the moves being explored.
