Real Madrid edged past Sevilla with a 1-0 win at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, thanks to an excellent first-half finish from Vinicius Junior.
The hosts threatened inside the opening minutes, with Oso firing over before forcing a strong save from Thibaut Courtois after a dangerous Sevilla spell.
Madrid gradually settled and found the breakthrough in the 15th minute when Kylian Mbappe cushioned down a cross into the path of Vinicius, who calmly side-footed into the bottom corner for his 16th league goal of the campaign.
Despite falling behind, Sevilla continued to compete. Dodi Lukebakio and Neal Maupay caused occasional problems, while Madrid relied on Courtois and their back line to protect the lead.
Madrid controlled larger spells of possession after the goal, though they rarely overwhelmed Sevilla. Mbappe flashed one effort wide late in the first half, and the visitors carried a modest advantage into the interval.
Second-half stalemate
The second half followed a similar pattern. Sevilla pushed forward more, while Madrid looked dangerous on the counter. Vinicius Junior remained Madrid’s main attacking spark, creating chances for Mbappe and later substitute Franco Mastantuono, who struck the post after a sharp move in the 72nd minute.
Sevilla introduced Alexis Sanchez and Chidera Ejuke in an attempt to rescue a point, but clear-cut chances remained limited.
Adams tested Courtois with a diving header, while Kike forced an outstanding stoppage-time save after a fierce strike from distance.
Madrid thought they had sealed the match when Mbappe rounded the goalkeeper and finished neatly, only for VAR to confirm an offside decision.
Sevilla kept pressing until the final seconds, but Courtois produced one last crucial stop in added time to preserve the clean sheet.
