Real Madrid have confirmed defender Ferland Mendy has undergone successful surgery on a thigh injury.
The Frenchman sustained the injury during Madrid’s win over Espanyol eight days ago, forcing him off in the 14th minute.
A statement released by Madrid read: “Our player Ferland Mendy has successfully undergone surgery today for a rectus femoris injury in his right leg, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services.
“Mendy will begin his recovery process in the coming days.”
The club did not provide a timetable for his return, but Marca reported that the left-back is facing a four to five-month lay-off.
Mendy has made just nine appearances for Madrid in an injury-riddled season for the 30-year-old.
Madrid’s 2-0 defeat to Barcelona on Sunday ensured Madrid will end the campaign trophy-less as the Blaugrana clinched the LaLiga title with their Clasico victory at Camp Nou.
