Atlético Madrid v Real Sociedad: Predicted line-ups and where to watch Copa del Rey final

Preview for Atletico Madrid v Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad midfielder Benat Turrientes is desperate to the win the Copa del Rey with “the team of my life” when they take on Atletico Madrid in Seville tomorrow.

Turrientes has become a fixture in the starting XI since the arrival of American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo just before Christmas and will play against the Champions League semi-finalists at La Cartuja.

The 24-year-old is a boyhood Sociedad fan and admits it would be very special to take a major trophy back to San Sebastián.

In an interview with Marca, he said: “It’s hard to win a title with La Real, but you always dream of winning one with the team in your heart, the one you started with when you were 11 years old, and now that dream is one game away. Let’s see if we can make it happen.

“For me it will be a very special final, playing for a title with the team of my life, being one step away from achieving it, it will be a very beautiful night.”

Sociedad’s last appearance in the final, in 2021 against Athletic Bilbao, ought to have been a Basque party but there were no fans in attendance due to the Coronavirus pandemic but this time will be very different with over 26,000 Sociedad fans making the long trip south to cheer on their team.

“The hair stands on end when you see all the people, how they live it, how they feel it, that already makes you start ahead,” added Turrientes. “In Seville the reception will be the same or more, it is exciting to think about it.

“We could not live the last final with fans and I think that our people deserve to live one, we are happy that they can go and help us.”

Real Sociedad winger Goncalo Guedes

Sociedad are seventh in La Liga and Atletico fourth. The Rojiblancos are favourites on paper and Turrientes accepts Diego Simeone’s side present a formidable challenge.

He said: “Atlético are one of the best teams out there, they are proving it, with great players in each position, including [Antone] Griezmann, [Alexander] Sorloth and [Robin] Le Normand, three former Real players, whose level we already know well. It’s going to be a complicated game, but if we play how we can do, we can hurt them.

“We have enough options to win, with all due respect to a great rival like Atlético.”

Atleti were made to work very hard by Barcelona in midweek, losing the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final 2-1 but squeezing through 3-2 on aggregate.

They have not won the Copa since 2013 but have the chance to complete a memorable double this season.

Defender Marc Pubill said: “A cup final is something very beautiful. I signed for this great club to play games like this. The most beautiful moment of the season is coming, also the most complicated and you have to be switched on.”
