Real Madrid v Getafe preview
Alvaro Arbeloa has called Vinicius Junior a “fantastic, extraordinary footballer” as the Brazil international prepares to face Getafe with Real Madrid on the back of a run of six goals in five matches.
The 25-year-old has netted in each of Madrid’s last five matches, including a goal in each leg of their win over Benfica to reach the Champions League last 16.
“My only contribution, if I have any, is giving him a lot of confidence, a lot of support and ensuring that his teammates look for him and, above all, find him in situations where he can showcase his talent and his greatest qualities,” said Blancos boss Arbeloa.
“[Those are] taking on defenders, dribbling, making runs behind the defence, creating one-on-one situations.
“He’s a decisive, fundamental player. As a coach, my only focus is on creating more situations where Vinicius can exploit his qualities.”
Arbeloa admires Getafe counterpart Jose Bordalas. “Despite not having much possession, his teams defend very well,” said Arbeloa.
“As the away team, they concede the fewest shots on goal. They’re a team capable of defending deep and also capable of defending high up the pitch.”
Vinicius Junior could be even more vital to Madrid because top scorer Kylian Mbappe is out with a knee injury, but Bordalas is not as pleased by the talisman’s absence as many Getafe fans might be.
“I always want the best players on the pitch,” explained Bordalas. “I love this sport and my profession, so I enjoy watching great footballers.
“It’s a shame that players of Mbappe’s calibre can’t participate, as that makes the spectacle even better.
“We are aware that we are facing one of the best teams in the history of football. Playing at the Bernabéu always presents an added challenge, but the team has worked well during the week.
“We are approaching the match with enthusiasm and determination. We have corrected our mistakes and, despite the difficulty, our intention is to achieve a positive result by competing at the highest level.”
The 61-year-old called Arbeloa, who succeeded Xabi Alonso in January, a “relatively new coach” with “a great future ahead of him”.
“The responsibility at Real Madrid is enormous,” observed Bordalas. “But he’s doing a good job.”

Real Madrid
Getafe
