Barcelona chief Laporta lashes out at Dro’s agent amid ‘unpleasant situation’
Paris Saint-Germain are expected to complete the signing of Dro Fernandez this week
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has accused the agent of Dro Fernández of going back on his word with the teenage midfielder on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Dro, 18, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to emerge from La Masia in recent years but he will not further his career in Catalonia after reportedly becoming frustrated with a lack of playing time at Camp Nou.
He is set to link up with PSG with the European champions willing to pay an inflated fee of €8million – slightly above his release clause – as a gesture of goodwill.
That has not altered the feeling of irritation felt by Laporta, however, who is unhappy with how his agent has behaved.
“We will speak when it’s all done, it has been an unpleasant situation,” Laporta told Catalunya Radio late on Sunday. “It came as a surprise because we had agreed on a different solution for when he turned 18.
“Surprisingly, his representative told us he couldn’t follow through on what we’d agreed to. We will try to make it end in the best interests of Barca.”
Barcelona boss Flick also unhappy with Dro
Dro made eight appearances for Barcelona and was highly thought of by boss Hansi Flick.
Speaking earlier this month, the German also outlined his displeasure with how the youngster had behaved.
“What I want to say to the young players from La Masia, is we are Barca and one of the best teams in the world,” said Flick.
“We give them the opportunity to train with us, to grow, every day, with the best players in the world. We give them the opportunity, we give them the support, believe in them, the confidence.
“If you want to play for Barca, then (do it) 100 percent with your whole heart. This is what I want to say to everyone who is now with us, or in the future with us, this must be 100 percent.
“These colours, you have to live for them, this is what I want to see. All the others I don’t want, this is what I can say.”
Barcelona moved back to the top of La Liga yesterday after a 3-0 win over Oviedo.
