Barcelona’s shock 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad last week means the LaLiga title race is tightly poised as they look to return to winning ways at home against Real Oviedo.
Hansi Flick’s side are just a point ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table ahead of this weekend’s action and could start this game on Sunday behind their rivals if they beat third-placed Villarreal on Saturday.
Their defeat in the Basque region was their first league loss since the start of October, but they will hope their 4-2 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League means the loss was just a blip.
Barca beat Real Oviedo 3-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season but the last time the two met at the Camp Nou all the way back in 2001 actually ended in a 1-0 win for the visitors.
Newly-promoted Oviedo have found their return to the Spanish top flight difficult as they currently sit bottom of the table with 13 points and anything other than defeat in Catalonia looks a tall order.
Barcelona had to weather a storm in Prague in midweek after going a goal down before Slavia brought the game back to 2-2, with Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski netting in the second half to secure the win and Flick was pleased with the character shown by his side to avoid a second straight defeat.
They did not come out unscathed from the victory, however, with key midfield maestro Pedri picking up a hamstring injury which could keep him out of action for a month

Pedri is one of four players set to be unavailable for the Sunday afternoon game, with Andreas Chistensen, Gavi and Ferran Torres also on the sidelines.
A welcome return will be Lamine Yamal, however, with the teenage winger missing out in the Champions League due to suspension.
Real Oviedo will have David Carmo available after suspension, though Ovie Ejara and Eric Bailly are both doubts.
