Vinicius’ agent in stands to witness Brazilian shine and prompt talk that Real Madrid renewal is close
Vinicius shines as Real Madrid hammer Monaco
Vinicius Jr’s agent was in Madrid last night, prompting speculation the Brazil international is close to agreeing a new long-term deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The saga over whether Vinicius would commit to Real Madrid has been rumbling on for some time and has not been helped by the player’s drop in form and his uneasy relationship with the club’s former boss Xabi Alonso.
But Alonso’s departure and the arrival of Alvaro Arbeloa has seemingly pushed the 25-year-old towards a renewal with his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2027.
Agent Pena watches on
The appearance of his agent Frederico Pena in the stands for the 6-1 thrashing of Monaco in the Champions League last night is believed to be more than simply a show of support for a player frequently booed by the home crowd in recent weeks.
Vinicius responded with a brilliant display, setting up two goals and scoring one of his own as the Ligue 1 side were swept aside.
Afterwards, he spoke of his desire to stay at Real Madrid in an interview with TNT Sports. He said: “I want to stay at Real Madrid for a long time.
“My renewal? I have another year left. We’re very relaxed. I trust the president, he trusts me, we have a very good relationship.
“We will sort things out in the right time. No hurry.”
I am human – Real Madrid star hopes booing will now end
The boos at the start of the game soon made way for cheers as Vinicius sparkled.
He added: “It makes me very sad. I am human, I don’t want to be booed at home…in the last few games, I didn’t feel comfortable because whenever I did something wrong, they booed me.
“But the fans have the right. They pay a lot for the tickets. At home we need the support of our fans so that everything returns to normal. We want to win and so do they. If we are together, this season will go better.
“I want to be remembered for everything I’ve done for this club, but the demands are high, and I have to meet them every day.
“I try to give everything for this shirt and the club that has given me so much.”
