Real Madrid 6-1 Monaco – Vinicius Jr sparkles in needed win for Real
Real look back to their best
Real Madrid looked something like their old selves in a dominant Champions League win for new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.
Winger Vinícius Júnior was booed again by some fans but he produced a fine display to tee up a couple of goals and score a brilliant solo goal himself as Kylian Mbappe scored twice against his old club.
Mbappe and new coach Arbeloa had come out defending Vinícius recently, with Mbappe saying the crowd shouldn’t single out Vinícius as the one to blame for the team’s struggles.
Mbappe steered in the opener and then got on the end of a wonderful cross from Vinicius to make it 2-0.
Vini Jr then helped find youngster Franco Mastantuono to drive in his first Champions League goal before former West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer diverted into his own net.
Vinicius then weaved through a tired Monaco defence to smash into the roof of the net and then pointedly celebrate with Arbeloa on the sidelines.
Real made a mess of playing out from the back to allow Monaco to pinch one back but Jude Bellingham then slalomed through to score a sixth.
