Sunderland come through in shootout win

FA Cup round-up: Wins for Wolves, Sunderland and Leicester

Sunderland came through a penalty shootout to beat Everton in an all-Premier League tie in the FA Cup.

Here’s a round-up of the early kick-offs in the famous competition.

Everton 1-1 Sunderland – Sunderland win 3-0 on penalties

Sunderland recovered from a late equaliser to beat Everton and move into round four of the FA Cup.

The Black Cats led when Enzo le Fee scored a brilliant volley past Jordan Pickford after the home side failed to deal with a long throw.

But James Garner levelled late on after Adam Aznou went down in the area to win a penalty.

Garner could not repeat the trick in the shootout after a tame extra-time period though, with Robin Roefs saving from him, Beto and Thierno Barry.

That allowed Luke O’Nien to strike the winning spot kick.

Everton boss David Moyes has now been eliminated in nine of his last 11 FA Cup ties against Premier League opponents.

Wolves 6-1 Shrewsbury

Jorgen Strand Larsen hit a hat-trick as Premier League strugglers Wolves eased into round four.

The top-flight sides raced into an early lead as striker Strand Larsen flicked in his first goal in 12 games.

Jhon Arias then ran in to fire in a second after just 11 minutes but the League Two side pulled one back when John Marquis buried a penalty.

Strand Larsen made it 3-1 before the break though after a mistake from Shrews keeper Elyh Harrison gifted him a tap-in.

Shrewsbury have lost 14 of their 15 away games against top-flight opponents in the FA Cup, and Strand Larsen soon had his treble in the second half with a cool finish.

Rodrigo Gomes got the fifth with four minutes left with a sliding finish at the far post and there was time for Tolu Arokodare to make it six.

Cheltenham 0-2 Leicester

Leicester are into round four after a straightforward win at their League Two hosts.

Patson Daka lashed a powerfuul shot past Joe Day to open the scoring before Stephy Mavididi got the second with a fine solo run.
