Arsenal 4-1 Tottenham: Report, result and goals as Eze hat-trick secures dominant North London derby win
Eberechi Eze scored a stunning hat-trick in his first ever North London derby as Arsenal thrashed rivals Tottenham 4-1 in the Premier League.
Eze, who opted to join Arsenal rather than Spurs in the summer, showed their rivals exactly what they were missing with a brilliant treble at the Emirates, with Leandro Trossard also on target in a dominant win for the league leaders, who are now six points clear at the summit.
Richarlison provided Tottenham’s only moment to celebrate with a brilliant long-range lob but it was in vain as they suffered their first away defeat of the campaign.
Arsenal 4-1 Tottenham as it happened
Arsenal started the game on the front foot, with Spurs sitting back and aiming to be resolute. Bukayo Saka was the man who went closest early, stinging the palms of Guglielmo Vicario with a free-kick.
They did finally get the lead their dominance deserved when Trossard brought down Martin Zubimendi’s ball inside the box before turning and tucking the ball into the far corner.
Only a few minutes later, Arsenal had a two-goal lead when Eze danced his way through a collection of fairly static defenders before firing the ball in for a goal which sparked delerium at the Emirates.
Thomas Frank opted to ditch the back five for a more conventional back four at half-time but it didn’t spark a change in their fortunes, with Eze grabbing his second with a clinical left-footed finish only a minute into the second half.
Richarlison gave Spurs a glimmer of hope out of nowhere after catching David Raya off his line before lobbing the Arsenal stopper with a brilliant first-time strike to reduce the arrears.
But it was to be Arsenal’s – and indeed Eze’s – day as he eliminated any hopes of a comeback by completing his hat-trick with another beautifully-taken strike.
