Sesko to return before Christmas

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said he thinks striker Benjamin Sesko will be back for Christmas.

The striker injured his knee before the international break but he has not suffered any serious ligament damage.

And Amorim now hopes to have him back in the squad to cover for Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo travelling to the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on 21 December.

Amorim said: “It will be more or less at the same time [as Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo leave for the Africa Cup of Nations], I don’t want to say for sure but when they are going to the camp I expect to have Ben back.

“We have the rules when we will have to release the players for internationals. We are trying to have the players for a bit longer, but we will see.

“I think it is two weeks before the start [of the tournament on 21 December]. We will try to arrange something with the federation.”

United’s recent upturn in form sees them head into the return to Premier League action this weekend in seventh place.

United host Everton on Monday night with Amorim much happier with his side’s performances.

He said: “The important thing is that it doesn’t matter what we did in the recent games. We cannot forget we suffer a lot in those games and play every game like it is the last one.

“[We are] more dominant, playing better football and more competitive in every way.”
