Atletico Madrid are poised to make their fifth signing of the summer.

Atletico Madrid strike deal for Argentina international Almada

Thiago Almada is set to join Atletico Madrid after they agreed a deal to sign the Argentina international from Botafogo.

Botafogo signed the forward from MLS side Atlanta United in July last year, before he was loaned to Lyon, another side owned by John Textor’s Eagle Football Group, in January.

Almada scored twice and registered four assists for Lyon in 20 appearances, and will fill the void at Atletico left by Angel Correa, who last week joined Mexican side Tigers UANL.

A statement from Atletico said of the deal with Botafogo: “Our club and the Brazilian side have reached an agreement, pending confirmation once the player passes the required medical examination and signs the contract.”

It is reported that Atletico will pay €21million for 50 percent of Almada’s economic rights, as he makes a switch from a team they beat in the Club World Cup last month.

Almada is set to become Atletico’s fifth signing of the transfer window, following Alex Baena, Matteo Ruggeri, Juan Musso and Clement Lenglet through the door at the Metropolitano.
