Lionel Messi breaks another record with two goals as Inter Miami win again
Lionel Messi produced another masterclass as Inter Miami won in Foxborough
Lionel Messi broke another record last night after scoring twice in Inter Miami’s 2-1 win at the New England Revolution.
The Argentina superstar’s efforts saw him become the first man in MLS history to score at least two goals in four successive games as Miami continued their ascent back up the Eastern Conference standings.

Having capitalised on some poor New England defending for his first, Messi then doubled his side’s advantage with a brilliant finish after latching on to Sergio Busquets’ through ball.
Carles Gil pulled one back with 11 minutes to go but the home side could not find an equalizer.
Messi is special – Mascherano
Reflecting on Messi’s 13th and 14th goals of the season – he stands two behind the league’s leading scorer Sam Surridge, Miami boss Javier Mascherano said: “Obviously Leo is a special player. For me he is the best player that has played this sport in history.
“So it’s unbelievable because how he continues doing things that maybe many, many years ago we thought that maybe we wouldn’t see at this stage…
“He’s a special player. We are lucky to have him.”

Messi needs rest, admits Mascherano
Having participated in the Club World Cup, where Miami reached the last 16 before losing to European champions Paris Saint-Germain, several players are in need of a rest, including their eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is now 38 years of age.
Mascherano added: “Yeah, we wanted to give them some rest, maybe in this game. But after New England scored the goal, we were under pressure, so we preferred to keep him on the pitch.
“We had to make some decisions. It’s not the best situation for us because we know that maybe in the next games, we have to find the moment to give him some rest. It’s like this. Now we have a lot of games coming because of our participation in the Club World Cup.
“But we will try to analyze when is the best moment to give him some rest.”
The opportunity to leave Messi out may come on Saturday when Nashville visit South Florida.
The win in New England saw Miami move up to fifth in the East, and they have three games in hand on all the teams above them.
