Spurs’ 1-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday added a layer of gloss to what had been a disappointing season for boss Ange Postecoglou, for whom it could have been a final game in charge.

Brighton still had work to do, needing a point to make sure of eighth position in the Premier League.

They would then have to sit back and examine results from elsewhere – and hope Chelsea win the Conference League – to stand any chance of playing European football next season.
