Chelsea’s first signing of the summer!
Chelsea are close to signing their first player of the summer transfer window and it is a man that appeared 17 times for Manchester City in the Premier League last season.
Willy Caballero is being brought in to Chelsea as cover for Thibaut Courtois,
Chelsea sold substitute goalkeeper Asmir Begovic earlier in the window, to Bournemouth.
Willy Caballero left Manchester City on a free transfer
Pep Guardiola released a host of big name players at the end of the 2016/2017 season.
Amongst those was Caballero, who ended the season as Manchester City’s first choice goalkeeper, due to an injury to Claudio Bravo.
Manchester City have quickly moved to fill a problem position for them, by spending big bucks on Ederson from Benfica.
Should Man City have held onto Caballero?
Reports from Argentina on Tuesday – see the Tweet below – confirm that Boca Juniors made an inquiry for Caballero but that the former Malaga goalkeeper is heading to Chelsea.
Questions may now be asked of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who let Caballero leave on a free transfer.
The 35-year-old was a popular figure at Manchester City and ensured they won the League Cup under Manuel Pellegrini with penalty saves against Liverpool in 2016.
