Osasuna 2 - Real Madrid 1 (La Liga, May 31, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Real Madrid stole ahead at Osasuna after 10 minutes when Gonzalo Higuain collected the ball on the right-hand side, cut into the box, and fired home. The lead lasted only minutes, Jaroslav Plasil sneaking a tame shot into the near post that Casillas should have saved. (First half highlights here.) Osasuna’s task got a little easier after Michel Salgado was handed a straight red in the 55th minute, and soon the hosts took advantage as Juanfran smacked an unstoppable 20-yard volley that ripped into the net on the hour.
Real Betis 1 - Valladolid 1 (La Liga, May 31, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Betis were only relegated on goal difference, with Ricardo Oliveira’s equaliser not enough to see the hosts through after substitute Marco Aguirre gave Valladolid the lead.
Sporting Gijon 2 - Recreativo Huelva 1 (La Liga, May 31, 2009) Sporting had to come from behind to win having fallen behind to a Recre opener through Ersen Martin. David Barral got the home side back on terms on 58 minutes before a Luis Moran strike nine minutes later ensured Gijon beat the drop.
Racing Santander 1 - Getafe 1 (La Liga, May 31, 2009) Racing broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, Toni Moral getting across his marker to convert a right-wing cross. Getafe were level inside five minutes after Esteban Granero fired a low drive into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
Numancia 0 - Sevilla 2 (La Liga, May 31, 2009) Sevilla claimed all three points with two late goals, Emiliano Armenteros tapping in from a yard in the 89th minute before Juan Carlos Moreno turned a cross into his own net in injury time.
Espanyol 3 - Malaga 0 (La Liga, May 31, 2009) Raul Tamudo scored a hat-trick as Espanyol finished off the season in style. Tamudo scored in the seventh and 45th minute, before converting a penalty after Welington Robson was red-carded for tripping the Espanyol captain inside the area in the 55th.

Deportivo La Coruna 1 - Barcelona 1 (La Liga, May 30, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Triple-champions Barcelona were saluted by the Deportivo players before there match in Andalusia. That didn’t stop Depor taking the lead, Rodolfo Bodipo planting home a clinical header on the half hour. Barca equalised in the last minutes of the match, Samuel Eto’o finding the leveller for the Catalans.
Valencia 2 - Athletic Bilbao 0 (La Liga, May 30, 2009) Valencia took just six minutes before moving ahead of Bilbao, Joaquin raced down the right hand side and picked out David Villa for the simple tap-in. Los Che had to wait until the dying stages to put the game to bed, David Villa again popping up to slot home from 2-yards.
Atletico Madrid 3 - Almeria 0 (La Liga, May 30, 2009) A breathtaking individual strike from Kun Aguero blasted Atletico ahead of Almeria after 19 minutes. Madrid then doubled their lead when Luis Garcia met a Maxi free-kick six minutes later. Spaniksh top goalscorer Diego Forlan added another great goal to his collection after the break, crashing home a first-time from 25-yards out.
Mallorca 2 - Villarreal 3 (La Liga, May 30, 2009) Villarreal moved in front at Mallorca when Cani coolly found the bottom corner on the half hour. The Yellow Submarine were then breached straight through the middle allowing Aritz Aduriz to level six minutes later. Rossi then saw his spot-klick saved by Moya, before the visitors moved ahead when Joseba Llorente broke the offside trap before expertly lifting the ball over the keeper. Llorente extended Villarreal’s lead at the start of the second half, Pierre Webo’s 89th goal a mere consolation.

Real Madrid 1 - Mallorca 3 (La Liga, May 24, 2009) From a Van der Vaart free-kick, Gonzalo Higuain planted a header inside the Mallorca near post to put Real ahead after 20 minutes. The islanders replied inside six minutes, the Madrid defence fell to pieces and Juan Arango ran through to score. Madrid fell to an embarrassing defeat in the second half, Cleber Santana scored a pearler beating three Real defenders before rifled a bullet into the top corner. Alhassane Keita cracked in the killer third 20 minutes from time.

Barcelona 0 - Osasuna 1 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Walter Pandiani headed Osasuna into a surprise 25th minute lead at Barcelona. The result saw Osasuna climb out of the relegation zone, while a poor night for Pep Guardiola’s side was compounded nine minutes from the end when Marc Muniesa was given his marching orders. Despite the defeat, Barca celebrated winning the La Liga title after the game, celebrations can be seen here.
Almeria 0 - Espanyol 3 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) Daniel Ivan Alonso finished off a breakaway goal for Espanyol as they took lead at Almeria. Ivan Alsono bagged a second in 72nd minute, Ferran Corominas was also on target as he struck in injury-time.
Athletic Bilbao 1 - Atletico Madrid 4 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) Raul Garcia (62) fired the capital giants in front just past the hour-mark, before Xabier Etxeita levelled matters five minutes later. Diego Forlan then bagged a quick-fire brace (73 & 77) to all but wrap up the points for Abel Resino’s men. There was, still time for Forlan to complete his hat-trick as he made no mistake from the penalty spot with three minutes left on the clock.
Malaga 1 - Real Betis 1 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) Malaga failed to clear their lines after a period of Real Betis pressure minutes before the breaking ending off in Luis Edu cracking home the opener from the edge of the box. Albert Luque snatched an equaliser seven minutes from the end.
Villarreal 3 - Valencia 1 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) Joseba Llorente received a right wing cross in the Valencia box on 15 minutes, the striker spinning on a sixpence before finding the back of the net. Soon Llorente doubled both his Villarreal’s lead with a back post header on the half hour. David Villa pulled the visitors back into the game with a close range finish minutes before the interval. Cani sealed the win with the Yellow Submarine’s third after the break.
Sevilla 1 - Deportivo La Coruna 0 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) A last minute header from Diego Perotti earned Sevilla all three points.
Getafe 1 - Numancia 0 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) An excellent move from Getafe that saw the ball travel from back to front ended with a fine finish from Roberto Soldado on the hour mark.
Recreativo Huelva 0 - Racing Santander 1 (La Liga, May 23, 2009) A close range strike from Nikola Zigic proved enough for Racing and condemned Recre to the drop.

Mallorca 2 - Barcelona 1 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) Before the match Barca received an ovation for winning the league. Returning striker Samuel Eto’o met a Bojan cross with a fine header as Barca took the lead at Mallorca. A stunning free-kick from Juan Arango pulled the islanders level on 72nd minutes before Cleber Santana turned the match on its head with a second five minutes later. Samuel Eto’o saw a late penalty saved as the newly cropwned champinos fell to a rare defeat.
Atletico Madrid 1 - Valencia 0 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) A first half Diego Forlan penalty proved the difference between the sides.
Sporting Gijon 2 - Malaga 1 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Serrabasa Gerard rose high in the Malaga box to head relegation-threatened Gijon into a 24th minute lead. Weligton brought Malaga level with a header off an inviting dead-ball.
Espanyol 1 - Athletic Bilbao 0 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) Luis Garcia stroked home a 69th minute penalty to put Espanyol ahead against Bilbao.
Numancia 1 - Recreativo Huelva 0 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) Numancia moved off the bottom by beating fellow strugglers Recre thanks to a late penalty from Jose Barkero.
Real Betis 2 - Almeria 0 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) Real Betis also took a giant step towards survival with a 2-nil victory over Almeria which was far more convincing than the scoreline suggested. Mark Gonzalez and Arzu netted in each half although the visitors’ cause was not helped by the 20th minute dismissal of Chico.
Racing Santander 3 - Valladolid 2 (La Liga, May 17, 2009) Oscar Serrano got Racing off to a great start scoring after just four minutes, but Valladolid hit back with two quick strikes from Victor and Henok Goitom to go in ahead at the interval. Valladolid were reduced to 10-men three minutes after the break when Inaki Bea was sent-off and Jonathan Pereira levelled for the home side on the hour mark. Nikola Zigic struck with a header five minutes from time to give Racing a vital win, which sees them move five clear points of the drop zone.

Villarreal 3 - Real Madrid 2 (La Liga, May 16, 2009) A wonderful flowing counter-attack from Villarreal tore through the Real team with Bobby Pires eventually planting the header to finish off the move. (First half highlights here.) Rafael van der Vaart drew Los Blancos level at the start of the second half, but after a sustained period of pressure on the hour mark Cani fired the Yellow Submarine backed in front. The match had a dramatic finish, Gonzalo Higuain equalised for Madrid with two minutes on the clock only for Joan Capdevila to claim a 90th minute winner for Villarreal.
Deportivo La Coruna 1 - Getafe 1 (La Liga, May 16, 2009) Roberto Soldado gave the visitors the lead but substitute Riki ensured the spoils were shared with a strike four minutes from time.
Osasuna 0 - Sevilla 0 (La Liga, May 16, 2009) A disappointing match saw Osasuna earn a point that keeps their head just above the water in the relegation battle.
