Video: All of the bad challenges & refused penalties suffered by Luis Suarez this season so far
- Updated: October 9, 2012
“I find it incredible that in nearly all the coverage about Luis Suarez this weekend, very little focus has been placed on the fact that he was actually the victim of a stamping incident within the first five minutes of the game. At this moment there seems to be one set of rules for Luis and another set for everyone else… No one should be distracted by the real issue here, both at Anfield and at another game played on Sunday, when Luis and another player were hurt in off-the-ball incidents that went unpunished but were caught on TV cameras. I believe some people need to develop a sense of perspective and I also believe in this moment the vilification of Luis is both wrong and unfair.” – Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.
It is easy to laugh at Luis Suarez’s dirty diving (see this amusing GIF and the NMA TV report on his antics against Stoke) but as Rodgers points out and many Liverpool fans will tell you, the Uruguayan is on the end of some poor challenges and decisions.
Just two months into the new campaign and a video has already emerged of Suarez the victim, from both viscous defenders and referees who are clamping down hard on the Liverpool striker.
First up, against West Brom on the opening day we see a number of tough challenges on Suarez go unpunished. Then more rough calls against Manchester City and Hearts before a potential penalty call in Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal turned down.
Luis Suarez is then on the receiving end of bad challenges at Sunderland, before the Uruguayan sees more decent looking penalty appeals refused against Manchester United and in the emphatic win over Norwich.
There will of course be those that by exaggerating dives, Suarez makes a rod for his own back but as Rodgers points out above, the assault from Robert Huth is particularly brutal and it is incredible that this received much less attention than his dive later in the match.
