Tottenham have debunked the theory that you need to be a member of the Champions League club in order to attract the world’s top players.
Having signed Soldado, Capoue, Paulinho, Chadli, Lamela and Chiriches, Andre Villas-Boas is poised to add another quality player to his squad with the addition of Ajax’s Christian Eriksen.
Whilst Tottenham, who have won their opening two Premier League games 1-0 thanks to a pair of Soldado penalties, have started the season well, the North Londoners have looked short of a schemer in midfield.
Spurs now resemble an NFL team is their physical massiveness and fleet-footed movement, however for all the muscle the Lillywhites lack a finesse player in the centre of the park. The hope is that Eriksen can be that man.
The Danish international has excelled in both the Eredivisie and on the international stage, but Eriksen has outgrown his current surroundings. White Hart Lane, the Premier League and a season in the Europa League should provide a serious test for the 21-year-old.
Christian Eriksen has made 157 appearances in all competitions for Ajax, scoring 30 goals and providing 40 assists. He has also helped his Amsterdam based side to three successive Eredivisie titles.
