Professional footballers know that cameras watch their every move on the pitch, right?
Someone should perhaps inform Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones as he produced some ridiculous play acting on Sunday that has immediately been compared to Rivaldo’s infamous effort at the 2002 World Cup.
Late in the second half of Schalke’s 1-1 draw with Augsburg, Jones received a light blow to his hand when chasing a loose ball – the American, who spent time at Blackburn last season, promptly went down clutching his face.
The video below compares Jones with Rivaldo who in the 2002 World Cup, got hit by the ball in his midriff and clutched his face to get a Turkish opponent sent off.
Incidentally, Jones’ play acting comes just days after a training ground bust-up with free-scoring Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
