There were yet more scenes to shame English football after Sunderland’s surprise 3-0 victory at Newcastle on Sunday.
Trouble broke out in Newcastle city centre with section of the Toon army venting their frustrations at losing to Paolo Di Canio’s side in convincing fashion.
The violence after the Tyne-Wear derby may well have been worse than Millwall at Wembley on Saturday with 27 Newcastle fans arrested as opposed to 14 on Saturday.
Whether the Newcastle violence causes as much rancour as Millwall remains to be seen – but there is no doubting the image which summed up yet more futile football hooliganism.
What a plum!
