New List: The 60 most valuable players in world football ahead of the January 2013 transfer window

lionel messi 441545 New List: The 60 most valuable players in world football ahead of the January 2013 transfer windowBrazilian sports business consulting firm Pluri Consultoria have produced a rather interesting list, detailing who they believe to be the 60 most valuable footballers on the planet ahead of the January 2013 transfer window.

There will no doubt be plenty of debate about the list below but Pluri Consultoria have played safe with their first three names: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta who make up the three players shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or.

What may surprise some is the big difference in value apportioned to Lionel Messi (€140 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (€96.3 million) but this presumably reflects their connections to their respective clubs.

The biggest riser over the past year is Radamel Falcao who jumped from 40th to fifth. And it will come as no surprise that the highest English player is Wayne Rooney.

According to the report, the 60 most highly valued players in the world total €2.4 billion in 2012, which is 20% more than last year.

The top 60 most valuable players in world football (in euros) can be seen on the list below.

Pluri Consultoria’s original report, in Portuguese and in PDF format, is here.
