Chelsea have banned all player banter in an effort to get their season up and running, according to a report by the Telegraph.
The Premier League champions have been diabolically poor in the opening games of the season, losing four of their first six matches.
Under-pressure boss Jose Mourinho and his players have all agreed that jokes will go out the window while they’re in this state.
But it doesn’t sound as though it was exactly a laugh riot at Cobham before this rule was agreed upon. There have regular reports of falling-outs in this campaign.
The bad atmosphere in the squad seems to have brewed in the wake of the medical staff debacle with players angry at Mourinho’s treatment of Eva Carneiro.
Known for being ruthless in order to succeed, Mourinho has shot himself in the foot by carrying on with this pointless feud.
TalkSPORT pundit Stan Collymore reported that John Terry had fallen out with Diego Costa and other reports indicate Mourinho has fought with both in recent weeks.
It all leaves the decision to cut jokes out as a little strange and shortsighted. Surely what the team is lacking is harmony, unity and morale?
