IMScouting’s top 50 transfer tips (Part 2)

It’s day two of the transfer window, and we are happy to bring you the second installment of the IMScouting 50 transfer tips, garnered from IMScouting’s wide ranging, world-wide scouting network.

As before, all the players listed below are no older than 25-years-old and all are up-and-coming players in world football. They include a mixed bunch of players and provide an insight into players who many clubs and scouts may not have previously heard of.

Today we release Part 2, which focuses on midfielders.

Midfielders

1. Eden Hazard

Age: 17 – Position: Attacking midfielder (centre) – Current Club: OSC Lille – Estimated Market Value: 300K euros

Note: This young Belgian incarnates the policy of regional recruitment installed by the French club. He is there to learn and gain experience. Had a good opening to the 2008/2009 season which led him to his first call up to the Belgium senior squad.

2. Aviram Bruchyan

Age: 23 – Position: attacking midfielder (right) – Current Club: Beitar Jerusalem – Estimated Market Value: 1 million euros

Note: Aviram Bruchyan is more and more looking like a player far above the level of the Israeli top flight. It seems this young talent will soon prove his skills in a top European league. Bruchyan has proven that he is able to perform at the highest level of European football; he scored a brace against Polish side Wisla Krakow and gave Beitar Jerusalem a 2-1 victory on home soil in the first leg of the second round of UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Due to the current financial instability at Beitar – financially troubled owner Arkady Gadamak might be willing to offload him for a much lower price.

3. Sofiane Feghouli

Age: 18 – Position: central midfielder – Current Club: Grenoble Foot – Estimated Market Value: 1.5 million euros

Note: The 18-year-old central midfielder of Grenoble has been watched by a number of major European clubs including Real Madrid, Chelsea, PSG, Liverpool and Bordeaux. In addition, Atletico Madrid and Marseille are believed to have made formal approaches for Feghouli.

Feghouli is equipped with remarkable technique, he can impose himself despite his young age. His contract runs out at the end of the 2009/2010 season.

4. Hosny Abd Rabo

Age: 24 – Position: Central midfielder – Current Club: Al Ahli Dubai (loaned from Ismaily) – Estimated Market Value: 1.7 million euros

Note: This box-to-box midfielder, who usually acts as a playmaker from the centre of midfield, has had a good season so far, on a loan basis from Egyptian side Ismaily to Dubai’s Ahly.

Hosni is also very good from free kicks and can provide elegant passes. He was the best player in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. Hull City are thought to be interested.

5. Jan Moravek

Age: 19 – Position: Attacking midfielder (centre) – Current Club: Bohemians 1905 Prague – Estimated Market Value: 2 million euros

Note: One of the most talented Czech footballers, described as the “new Rosicky.” Versatile, intelligent offensive midfielder, a complex player, who can play as a right, left, or central playmaker. Those who know him claim he is a clever and intelligent guy.

6. James McCarthy

Age: 18 – Position: Central midfielder – Current Club: Hamilton Academicals – Estimated Market Value: 2 million euros

Note: Came through Hamilton youth programme and a huge prospect. Has already turned down moves to Liverpool and Tottenham and been compared to Steven Gerrad in the style he plays. Was just 15 when he made his first team debut for Hamilton but has since matured into a top player who was able to hold his own in the Scottish First Division in season 2007/2008.

Scored twice against Motherwell in Hamilton’s 2-0 win over Motherwell in late December to suggest that he has settled well to playing in the SPL.

7. Semir Stilic

Age: 21 – Position: Attacking midfielder (centre) – Current Club: Lech Poznan – Estimated Market Value: 2 million euros

Note: Very creative player. Many clubs have followed him, including Arsenal, but he chose Lech Poznan because at a stronger club he may not have played as much. Bosnian coach Miroslav Blazevic says he may be his “new Zvonimir Boban.” High technique, great passing, can pass and shoot with both feet. A hot prospect.

8. Sean Scannell

Age: 18 – Position: Attacking midfielder (right) – Current Club: Crystal Palace – Estimated Market Value: 2 million euros

Note: Aston Villa have recently been linked with one of the hottest prospects in the Championship and he could well be on his way in January with manager Neil Warnock admitting some of his highly-rated youngsters could be leaving.

Quick, tricky, enthusiastic, scorer of ingenious goals, mature and with surprising upper-body strength that belies his lightweight frame.

9. Mohamed Diame

Age: 21 – Position: Defensive midfielder – Current Club: Rayo Vallecano – Estimated Market Value: 2.5 million euros

Note: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Betis and Liverpool have already been linked with Diame. He has had a fantastic season so far at Rayo Vallecano, it appears that he can be one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.

Diame is a strong and true fighter, an aggressive, tireless worker in the centre of the field. He can control with both feet, which makes it easy for him to escape pressure and send accurate long balls to the attack. His greatest ability is aerial domination, as he has a very good natural jump.

10. Anas Sharbini

Age: 21 – Position: Attacking midfielder (centre) – Current Club: NK Rijeka – Estimated Market Value: 2.5 million euros

Note: Anas Sharbini burst on to the domestic Croatian scene last season. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder made just 17 appearances for NK Rijeka in his first two seasons at the club, in 2007/8 he played 28 games and scored 11 goals culminating in a call-up for the national squad to Euro 2008.

Described as the “new Zvonimir Boban,” this technically two-footed player prefers to play as an attacking midfielder where he can influence events in the final third of the pitch. With his contract due to expire in 2009/10 there could be a flock of clubs circling around this young talent if he continues to star this campaign.

11. Franco Zucilini

Age: 18 – Position: Central midfield – Current Club: Racing Avellaneda – Estimated Market Value: 3 million euros

Note: Franco Zuculini has wowed Argentina and it is no exaggeration to say that this 18-year-old central midfielder has the world at his feet.

Scouts from all across Europe have flocked to see Zuculini in action and one characteristic stands out – his limitless energy. Thanks to his constant running, Racing’s number 36 can play all across the midfield and has a great footballing brain, especially for someone so young.

12. Gary Medel

Age: 21 – Position: Defensive midfielder – Current Club: Univ Catolica – Estimated Market Value: 4.5 million euros

Note: At just 5.6ft (1.72m), Gary Medel may not be the classic size for a defensive midfielder but don’t be fooled, the “Chilean pitbull” is one of the most exciting talents in South America. This multi-talented player, born in Pudahuel, a small commune located in Santiago Province, has numerous qualities that make him currently the brightest prospect in Chile.

With a game based on intensity and high energy it comes as no surprise that the Chilean press has fallen in love with this hard-working player. Medel has been nicknamed the “Chilean Gattuso” after the AC Milan and Italy midfielder and the “pitbull” – the same moniker attached to another defensive midfielder with seemingly boundless energy, Edgar Davids.

13. Michel Bastos

Age: 25 – Position: Attacking midfielder (left) – Current Club: OSC Lille – Estimated Market Value: 5 million euros

Note: Lille’s left sided attacking midfielder is in the midst of his best season ever, up to the winter break in France this Brazilian had recorded nine goals and seven assists in 19 appearances.

Bastos recently extended his contract at Lille until 2012 but it is no exaggeration to say he is the most in form player in Europe and scouts in France have claimed he has the “best left foot” in Ligue 1.

14. Alan Dzagoev

Age: 18 – Position: Attacking midfielder (centre) – Current Club: CSKA Moskva – Estimated Market Value: 5 million euros

Note: Dzagoev’s partnership with Wagner Love, playing just behind the Brazilian striker, was one of the highlights of the Russian season. He finished his first professional season with eleven goals and seven assists in 26 games.

Alan Dzageov is a modern playmaker who can also defend and move all around the pitch. He has unbelievable technique and great passing ability, can read the game and on many occasions sees play before it actually happens. For his age he is quite strong and well built and has great pace and acceleration.

15. Guilherme

Age: 20 – Position: Attacking midfielder (right) – Current Club: Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte – Estimated Market Value: 6 million euros

Note: In the short time he has been playing professional football, Guilherme has looked the part. In his first season in Brazil’s Serie A, he scored 10 goals in 23 games – a very respectable figure for a player in his first season of professional football.

All the signs point to a steady improvement for the right forward who can also play as a playmaker or striker in a central position. During the 2008 season he claimed 18 goals in 32 games and finished at the fifth top scorer in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

16. Mesut Ozil

Age: 20 – Position: Attacking midfielder (centre) – Current Club: Werder Bremen – Estimated Market Value: 6 million euros

Note: Despite playing in the shadow of Brazilian maestro Diego at Werder Bremen, Mezut Ozil, a 19-year-old playmaker has earned himself the nickname “Der Neue Diego” (“the new Diego”). As he sets out to prove that he has the potential to live up to his more celebrated Brazilian team mate.

This playmaker is really establishing himself in the Bundesliga this season, up until the January transfer break he had provided eight assists and scored three goals in 20 appearances.

17. Aiden McGeady

Age: 22 – Position: Attacking midfielder (left) – Current Club: 22 – Estimated Market Value: 8 million euros

Note: A player of immense talent who has been tipped for the top right from the moment he scored a goal on his SPL debut against Hearts in 2004. Says he dreams of one day playing in Spain. Was suspended for two weeks at the end of December 2008 for the latest of a series of arguments with boss Gordon Strachan. Could spell the end to his Celtic career and Bayern Munich are thought to be interested.

18. Nicolas Bertolo

Age: 22 – Position: Attacking midfielder (right) – Current Club: CA Banfield – Estimated Market Value: 8 million euros

Note: Nickname “Puma” due to his immense pace he also has great dribbling and passing abilities. Co-owned by Banfield and Boca Juniors. In November 2008 it was reported that Lazio are interested in signing this talent for 10 million euros.

19. Ibrahim Afellay

Age: 22 – Position: Central midfielder – Current Club: PSV – Estimated Market Value: 8 million euros

Note: Most creative Dutch player. Two good feet, good shot and a player who makes football look easy because he has exceptional technique. Ronald Koeman his old coach likened him with Johan Cruyff but he’s certainly the new Sneijder. Arsenal have already shown an interest and with Cesc Fabregas out for some time, he could be the perfect replacement.

20. Danijel Pranjic

Age: 27 – Position: Attacking midfielder (left) – Current Club: SC Heerenveen – Estimated Market Value: 10 million euros

Note: Technical genius who can score and provide assists, his general play and distribution of the ball can be breathtaking. Not only for his club but during Euro 2008 he was a joy to watch and with his contract due to expire he’ll probably be moving on in the January transfer window.
