In early February, we reported that the Premier League had attempted to take down the 101 Great Goals.com app from the iOS store.
During discussions with the Premier League’s lawyers NetResult, we were told that the 101 Great Goals apps for iPhone and iPad “infringe their copyright.”
According to NetResult, “It is a contributory copyright infringement to redirect or link to infringing material.”
Lawyers representing this website asked for proof and legal precedent for the statement above, but this was not forthcoming.
On March 18, 2013, the 101 Great Goals.com app was removed from the Apple store.
It is our belief that the Premier League are bullying 101 Great Goals.
101 Great Goals.com is a website/app that catalogues all available football videos. 101 Great Goals.com does not host or broadcast any such video on our servers. All we do is locate already existing videos and link to them through our site and apps.
Earlier this week, the 101 Great Goals.com app was returned to the Apple app store and can now been downloaded again.
We received countless questions and requests as to why our app was no longer appearing in the App store and were eager to wait until it was returned safe and sound to release this public statement.
Clearly this means that the app is well liked and is something we are truly proud of. But, with a draconian Premier League targeting small sites like ourselves, we cannot guarantee the app will remain available to download for long.
In the pipeline are a 101 Great Goals.com Android app as well as a dedicated mobile site which many of you have been calling for, for some time.
If you had downloaded the app, you would have seen no change whilst it was unavailable to download and the same will apply if it comes down in the future.
