‘Great job’ – Scheffler continues with business only attitude after winning Open Championship

Despite dominating and winning another major, there was minimal emotion from Scheffler in front of the cameras.

‘Great job’ – Scheffler continues with business only attitude after winning Open Championship

Scottie Scheffler did not bask in the glory of winning another major title for long.

The world No.1 golfer allowed himself a few minutes to celebrate his Open Championship win with his wife and son before letting his smile drop and keeping up with his recent theme of the sport simply being work and not pleasure.

Scheffler dominated the entire weekend at Royal Portrush, finishing way ahead of the chasing pack – including hometown hero Rory McIlroy.

And yet, as he putted to finish at -17, there celebrations were hushed, and the man himself towed the classic lines in his victory interview.

He said: “Thanks to my wife and son – I love you very much and can’t wait to get home and celebrate.

“To my parents and the rest of the team, I can’t thank you guys enough. I’ve got the best support team. Everyone does such a great job of working together.

“This place was in tremendous condition, the course played amazing – a shoutout to the grounds crew.

“Thanks to Royal Portrush and the town here, what an amazing week – I wish I could’ve seen more of the town but it was a business week.

“I look forward to seeing you all at Birkdale next year – all the best.

“Thanks to the fans for all the support. I know I wasn’t the fan favourite today so I appreciate you guys coming out to support.

“Overall it’s been a great week, the fan support was tremendous. It was a really fun week to be able to play in front of such a great crowd.”

Scheffler has been drawing comparisons to Tiger Woods due to his dominance on the course, with the Champion Golfer now just one major – the US Open – away from completing a Grand Slam.

But as he said in his interview last week, golf is just his job, and that was very evident on Sunday, despite marking such a major achievement.
