NBA: Devin Booker agrees record-breaking $145m extension with Phoenix Suns
The NBA superstar is staying with Phoenix despite losing team-mate Kevin Durant.
Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker has signed a groundbreaking two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2029-30 NBA season.
The deal sets a new benchmark with the highest annual salary ever for an NBA extension.
The agreement was finalised during a meeting in Las Vegas on Wednesday night between Booker and Suns team owner Mat Ishbia.
With this new extension averaging $72.5 million annually, Booker surpasses the previous record held by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Gilgeous-Alexander had signed a five-year supermax extension worth $285 million, averaging $71.25 million per season. Booker’s updated deal now totals five years and $316 million with Phoenix.
Drafted 13th overall in 2015, Booker has spent his entire NBA career with the Suns. This latest contract marks his third extension with the organisation.

Booker has repeatedly voiced his ambition to finish his career in a Suns uniform and deliver a championship to the franchise.
The 28-year-old shooting guard has become an increasingly influential figure within the team. He was involved in the decision-making process during the team’s recent head coaching search, interviewing finalists and ultimately endorsing the hiring of Jordan Ott.
Booker’s list of accolades continues to grow. A four-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA honoree, he also holds two Olympic gold medals with Team USA. Last season, he became the Suns’ all-time leading scorer and posted impressive numbers, averaging 25.6 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
He has averaged at least 25 points per game for seven straight seasons, a feat matched only by Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
He was instrumental in Phoenix’s run to the 2021 NBA Finals, where the team ultimately fell to the Bucks in six games.
The following season saw another deep playoff run, but last year the Suns stumbled to a 36-46 record, missing the postseason entirely despite having the league’s most expensive roster.
The disappointing finish triggered major roster changes, including a high-profile trade that sent 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.
