Match preview

The draw is opening up nicely for Roma, so can they go on and win a first Coppa Italia title for 15 years?

In the round of 16, Paulo Dybala was the only scorer as I Giallorossi ousted Genoa at home.

Meanwhile, in Serie A, José Mourinho’s men are desperate to get back into the Champions League.

Right now, Roma are sixth, one point adrift fourth spot, having lost 2-1 at leaders Napoli in Derby del Sole on Sunday night.

This is their first defeat since 6 November, when they were beaten by Lazio in Derby della Capitale.

Last season, Mourinho ended Roma’s trophy draught, delivering the inaugural Europa Conference League title.

Cremonese meantime caused a monumental shock in the previous round, dumping out Napoli on penalties.

The tie at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona ended 2-2, with Felix Afena-Gyan scoring a very late equaliser for the away side.

In the subsequent shootout, I Grigiorossi held their nerve in the pouring rain, scoring all five spot-kicks to knock out the run-away league-leaders.

Thus, Cremonese are competing in the quarter-finals for the first time since 1997, last getting beyond this stage 36 years ago.

What made that win in Naples more remarkable is the fact that Davide Ballardini’s team are bottom of Serie A and are still yet to win this season, accumulating just eight points from 20 outings.

So, Roma are overwhelming favourites to advance and, with either Torino or Fiorentina awaiting in the semis, have to be favourites to get to the final.

Will it be a night of celebration at Stadio Olimpico?
