Match preview

A mere 17 days after playing out a thriller, Manchester City and Tottenham go head-to-head once again.

That night, the Etihad was stunned silent when, on the cusp of half time, Spurs scored not once but twice, with Dejan Kuluševski and Emerson on target.

Nevertheless, it took Man City just eight minutes to get level again, Julián Álvarez and Erling Braut Håland the scorers, before Riyāḍ Maḥrez’s brace secured all three points.

This time, given that the Citizens have lost all four visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, failing to score in any of them, will this game have a different outcome?

Pep Guardiola’s team begin the weekend five points below Arsenal, having played a game more, so can ill afford to fall further behind, ahead of that huge top of the table clash on 15 February.

Manchester City did beat the Gunners in their last outing, with Nathan Aké's inch-perfect strike seeing the Sky Blues to an FA Cup victory.

Now though, can the Premier League champions end their dismal sequence of results in N17?

Tottenham meantime will be without manager Antonio Conte for the next few weeks after he had his gallbladder removed on Wednesday.

In their last outing, Spurs saw off Preston North End in the FA Cup, thanks to Son Heung-min’s brace at Deepdale, before Arnaut Danjuma netted on debut.

In the Premier League, Spurs did beat Fulham a fortnight ago, but have won just four of their last 11 fixtures, losing six.

This leaves them fifth, surprisingly only three points below both Newcastle and Manchester United.

Can Tottenham spring a surprise, or will Manchester City beat them for the second time in little over a fortnight?

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Spurs finally got their man on deadline day, with right-wing-back Pedro Porro arriving from Sporting CP.

Given that both Djed Spence and Matt Doherty departed, either Porro will be thrown straight in, or Emerson will continue to occupy that position.

On the other side, Ryan Sessegnon has been starting lately, but surely Ivan Perišić will get the nod here right?

Son Heung-min has only scored four times in the Premier League this season, but has netted on seven occasions against Manchester City.

The South Korean has only found the target more frequently against Southampton, Leicester and Borussia Dortmund.

Fit again Richarlison should be an option off the bench.

Predicted XI: (5-2-3): Lloris; Emerson, Romero, Dier, Davies, Perišić; Bentancur, Højbjerg; Kuluševski, Son Heung-min, Kane.

Manchester City team news

Pep Guardiola picked, pretty much, his strongest team against Arsenal in the FA Cup, meaing few changes are expected.

The only guaranteed alteration comes in goal, where Ederson will be back in place of Stefan Ortega.

João Cancelo, who’d started 17 matches so far this season, is no longer an option, having been sent on loan to Bayern Munich.

But, in Rico Lewis Pep trusts, with the 18 year old having started five of their six league games since the World Cup.

Riyāḍ Maḥrez is the most-recent Man City player to score in an away game at Spurs, this coming at Wembley in October 2018.

If anyone is going to change that fact it’s Erling Braut Håland, given that he’s already scored 31 times in just 27 appearances since arriving in the summer.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Laporte, Aké; Rodri, Gündoğan, De Bruyne; Maḥrez, Grealish, Håland.
