Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion betting tips: Premier League preview, predictions & odds

This article provides a preview, prediction and betting tips for Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday, 7th August 2022.

Correct Score Tip of the Day

The Red Devils finished strong at home last season and have picked up 12 points from their last six Premier League home matches here at the Old Trafford. The match also marks Erik Ten Hag’s first competitive match in charge. United have won each of the last nine home matches against Brighton and you need to go back to the early 1980s for the last time they failed to beat the Seagulls in Manchester. Therefore, 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is Manchester United 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion and is available at odds of 8/1.

Alternatively, you can bet on any Manchester United win at 3/5 against The Seagulls at home on Sunday. At these odds, a £10 bet would return £16. Or, back any away win for Brighton & Hove Albion at 5/1 here at the Old Trafford. At these odds, a £10 bet would return £60. You can also find odds of 14/5 for any draw between Manchester United and Brighton on Sunday. At these odds, a £10 bet would return £38.

Goalscorer Tip of the Day

Cristiano Ronaldo is our tip for the first goalscorer in Sunday’s match. The Manchester United central forward was the club’s top scorer last season and scored 18 goals (or 0.66 per 90) in the English Premier League with an expected goals of 17.2. Only Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min scored more than him in the Premier League last season. Ronaldo is 11/4 to be the first name on the score sheet in this match. Or 4/5 to score at any time during Sunday’s game.

Match preview

Manchester United welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford on Sunday for this Premier League match.

United finished last Premier League season in 6th place, 13 points behind Spurs in the top four and two points ahead of West Ham in 6th. As a result, this earned them qualification into the UEFA Europa League. The Red Devils finished last season on a run of nine home league games undefeated. However, they lost their last league match of the 2021/22 season away to Crystal Palace. The final score of the match was 1-0.

Lisandro Martínez is the big name signing for them this summer. The 24 year old centre-back arrives from Ajax Amsterdam for £51.63m. Tyrell Malacia, a 22 year old left-back, also arrives from the Netherlands as the only other player to have cost a transfer fee. They paid Feyenoord Rotterdam £13.50m to secure him. Christian Eriksen, a 30 year old attacking midfielder, also arrives from Brentford on a free transfer and could prove to be the shrewdest piece of business in the Premier League this summer.

United’s pre-season started out strong, most notably with the 4-0 battering of Liverpool in Bangkok. However, a defeat to Atletico Madrid sandwiched draws against Villa and Rayo Vallecano in their final warm up games which saw fans concerned already at the squad for the coming season.

Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho had both been struggling with illness recently but are expected to make the first squad of the season. Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial (thigh), Brandon Williams and Facundo Pellistri (ankle) are expected to miss out though.

Brighton finished the last Premier League season in 9th place, five points behind West Ham in 7th. This saw them miss out on qualification for the UEFA Conference League. The Seagulls come into this match on a run of five league games undefeated carried over from last season. This includes their last league match of the 2021/22 season at home to West Ham United which has a final score of 3-1 to Brighton.

The focus this summer so far has been the outgoings at Brighton. Marc Cucurella is likely the biggest departure for them this summer. The 24 year old left-back has joined Chelsea FC for £58.77m. Yves Bissouma, a 25 year old central midfielder, also leaves the club in a big money deal to join Tottenham Hotspur for £26.28m. Leo Östigard and Tudor Baluta have also left the club on a permanent basis.

The new arrivals are all very much with one eye on the future at Falmer Stadium. Julio Enciso is the big money signing for them this summer. The 18 year old second striker arrives from Club Libertad Asunción for £10.44m. Simon Adingra, a 20 year old left winger, also arrives from FC Nordsjaelland for £7.20m. Levi Colwill, a 19 year old centre-back, also arrives from Chelsea on loan as part of the deal that took Cucurella to Stamford Bridge.

Brighton ended pre-season strong with three wins in their last four games including an impressive 5-1 thumping of Espanyol in their final warm up game last weekend.

Alexis MacAllister is a doubt due to a groin injury for this match. The Brighton & Hove Albion forward has made 33 appearances this season. Jakub Moder also remains ruled out after needing a further operation on the serious knee injury he suffered earlier this year. Moder likely won’t feature for the club now until March 2023.
