Liverpool vs Crystal Palace betting tips: Premier League preview, predictions and odds

Will Liverpool continue their almost flawless start to the season?

On Wednesday night, the Reds commenced their Champions League group stage campaign, welcoming A.C. Milan to Anfield.

Amazingly, before this clash, these two giants, who’ve won 13 European Cups between them, had only ever met twice, both in finals.

Of course, in 2005, Liverpool came from 3-0 down to beat Milan on penalties in İstanbul but, two years later, the Rossoneri got revenge, winning 2-1 in Athens.

This time, it was Liverpool who raced out of the blocks and led after just eight minutes when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shot/cross deflected in.

They were then given a golden chance to double their lead when Mo Salah stepped up to take a penalty.

The Egyptian had converted his last 17 spot-kicks, dating back to September 2018 against Niger, but this effort was saved by Mike Maignan.

Liverpool were then made to pay as Milan scored not once but twice just before half time to go into the interval in front.

Salah did get his goal in the 48th minute, combining well with Divock Origi, before a thunderbolt from the captain won it.

Mid-way through the second half, a corner was headed out to the edge of the box where, on the half-volley, Jordan Henderson smashed home.

Anfield erupted to celebrate a truly sumptuous strike.

Jürgen Klopp’s side held out for a 3-2 win and, with Atlético Madrid and Porto also in Group B, it was a vital win.

Before their next European outing, at Estádio do Dragão in ten days time, there’s precious Premier League point to play for.

Last weekend, the Reds swatted aside Leeds at Elland Road with Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mané all on target.

The match, though, was overshadowed by the horrible ankle injury suffered by 18-year-old Harvey Elliott; he’ll surely be out for close to a year.

Nevertheless, it leaves Liverpool joint-top of the table having also beaten Norwich and Burnley and drawn with Chelsea.

The Reds have won their last eight successive meetings with Crystal Palace, scoring 24 times and conceding just five.

Before this, Liverpool had won just four of eight league encounters since the Eagles were promoted back to the top-flight in 2013.

Will this particular winning run continue on Merseyside?

Will Palace cause an Anfield upset?

As for Crystal Palace, the Patrick Vieira era came alive a week ago.

Palace went into their home meeting with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend looking for their first win of the season in any competition.

In truth, the first hour was dreadful, with neither side able to fashion much at all.

But, the game came to life when Spurs centre-back Japhet Tanganga was sent off, picking up two yellow cards in a matter of moments.

Not long after, Palace were awarded a penalty, Ben Davies penalised for hand-ball, with Wilfried Zaha converting the spot-kick.

The Côte d’Ivoire international has now taken three penalties in his career, scoring all three.

Then, in the 85th minute, Vieira took off Christian Benteke and gave Odsonne Édouard his Palace debut after joining from Celtic on deadline day.

Just 28 seconds later, Édouard opened his account, coolly slotting into the bottom corner.

That’s the fastest goal ever scored by a Premier League debutant.

Then, in stoppage time, the Frenchman doubled him money, again converting with his weaker left foot, this time having been picked out by Conor Gallagher.

So, a fantastic 3-0 victory for the Eagles; their biggest in front of fans at Selhurst Park since April 2018.

This takes their tally to four points having also drawn with West Ham in the game before.

Now, can Vieira’s side continue the momentum in this extremely tough away game?

To the surprise of many, Jürgen Klopp decided that Wednesday’s Champions League clash with A.C. Milan was the time for him to start rotating his squad.

But, with a League Cup tie at Norwich coming up this forthcoming mid-week, his perceived strongest XI will surely be on show here.

As ever, Alisson will continue in goal.

But, in front of him, Virgil van Dijk was left on the bench on Wednesday and remained an unused substitute.

Joe Gomez partnered Joël Matip, meaning Ibrahima Konaté is still awaiting his debut.

Matip and van Dijk will surely rekindle their partnership here.

In midfield, Harvey Elliott had established himself as a key player in the team prior to his horrific injury at Elland Road.

Without him, Fabinho will sit at the base of midfield with Jordan Henderson further forward.

Thiago could come in to complete the trio with Naby Keïta joining Curtis Jones, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the bench.

In attack, Divock Origi was given a surprise start on Wednesday.

It was the first time the Belgian had been named in a starting XI since January 31st, with his last goal coming in a 7-2 win at Lincoln last September.

But, for this one, Diogo Jota and Mo Salah are likely to be joined by Sadio Mané in attack.

The Senegalese forward has scored in each of his last eight Premier League appearances against Crystal Palace.

Mané could set a new record here, as no player has ever scored in nine successive Premier League games against the same opposition.

Will he be Palace’s kryptonite once again?

As for Crystal Palace, after a fabulous win a week ago, there’s no reason for Patrick Vieira to change too much.

As ever, Vicente Guaita will continue in goal but with two summer signings, Marc Guéhi and Joachim Andersen, in front of the shot-stopper.

Tyrick Mitchell has established himself as the first-choice left back these days, following Patrick van Aanholt’s departure, so much so that he now wears the number three shirt.

In midfield, Cheikhou Kouyaté will sit in front of the defensive line having filled in at centre-back, for club and country, a lot in the last couple of years.

Alongside him, Luka Milivojević made his long-awaited return off the bench on Saturday after off-field issues.

The Serbian could come into the XI here with the impressive Conor Gallagher getting the nod over James McArthur.

Out-wide, in Eberechi Eze’s continued absence due to an Achilles tendon injury, Jordan Ayew will start with Wilfried Zaha on the other flank.

Through the middle, Odsonne Édouard’s brace off the bench last weekend could see him rewarded with a first Premier League start here.

The 23-year-old is looking to become the first Palace player to score in their first two top-flight appearances since Bakary Sako in August 2015.

The player known as French Eddy during his time at Celtic accumulated an xG score of 0.65 in just five minutes on the field against Tottenham.

If he keeps this kind of pace up for the rest of the season, he’ll be expected to score 398 goals, breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time record by April.

Amid all the hype surrounding Édouard, Christian Benteke is the forgotten man.

The Belgian has scored five times at Anfield as a visiting player, more than the four he scored at the ground in 13 appearances for Liverpool.

Will Palace spring another surprise?
