Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cincinnati Bengals
In relief of an injured Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning scored a one-yard rushing touchdown with 19 ticks left on the clock to lift CIncy over the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-27.
Even though he threw three interceptions, Jake Browning also scored three total touchdowns while completing 21 of 32 passes for 241 yards.
The Jaguars’ offensive explosion from last Sunday continued into this week. Jacksonville put together a 12-play, 69-yard drive that ended with a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dyami Brown. He finished the game with five catches for 57 yards and a TD.
Following an interception of Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the end zone, the Bengals orchestrated an 80-yard drive that ended with quarterback Joe Burrow finding wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase on a 3rd and goal for a four-yard touchdown pass to tie the game 7-7.
The Jags wouldn’t be down long, though. Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten made the most out of his second career reception, juking a Bengals defender to find the end zone for his first career touchdown at the NFL level. That score put Jacksonville back on top, 14-7.
Bengals fans’ hearts dropped when Joe Burrow stayed on the ground after taking a sack in the second quarter. While trainers were reportedly looking at his ankle, he was replaced by backup Jake Browning. Burrow was later seen limping back to the locker room on Cincy’s next drive. He did not return to the game.
Jake Browning looked pretty good after throwing an interception in the first half. He linked up with wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley for an impressive toe-tapping touchdown to tie the game up at 17 apiece in the third quarter.
Jaguars running back Travis Etienne continued to put up gaudy numbers. He had 89 scrimmage yards and took an 11-yard pass to the end zone for his first touchdown of the season. That put Jacksonville back on top, 24-17.
Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase combined for 221 receiving yards and two receiving TDs. Tee Higgins’ third-quarter touchdown tied things up yet again at 24-24.
Jacksonville would retake the lead with a field goal, but Jake Browning led a 92-yard touchdown drive that took 3:24 off the clock to win the game. This was Jake Browning’s first victory since January 7th, 2024.
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys hit a game-winning 46-yard field goal attempt as time expired to defeat the New York Giants in overtime by a score of 40-37
Russell Wilson turned back the clock and had 450 passing yards, three yards short of a new career high. He also threw three passing TDs but had a costly interception in overtime. That INT allowed the Cowboys to pick up 42 yards in 1:56, which set up the game-winning field goal attempt.
The Giants’ offense bounced back from its dreadful Week One outing. They outgained the Cowboys in terms of yards, 175 to 12, which allowed Big Blue to start the second quarter with a 6-0 lead.
The Giants’ first touchdown of the season came in the second quarter. Wide receiver Malik Nabers made a floating 29-yard TD catch to increase their lead to 13-3. Nabers finished the game with nine catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite a horrendous offensive showing in the first quarter, Dak Prescott came alive in the second frame. He completed five passes for 58 yards, including a ten-yard touchdown to wide receiver KaVontae Turpin to make it 13-10 in favor of the Giants just before the two-minute warning. He finished the game with 361 passing yards and two TDs.
The Giants forced an interception on the first drive of the third quarter. However, their offensive series ended with a turnover on downs, which allowed the Cowboys to cobble together a 90-yard drive that resulted in a 30-yard Javonte Williams touchdown scamper and a 17-13 lead for the Cowboys. After scoring four rushing touchdowns last season with the Denver Broncos, Williams has already recorded three rushing TDs in two games with Dallas.
Following a Cowboys field goal, both teams would score touchdowns on back-to-back drives to bring the score to 27-23 with 6:09 left in the game. Rookie running back Cam Skattebo was the player who reached the end zone for New York, giving him his first career touchdown.
These teams scored 41 points combined in the fourth quarter! Russell Wilson found Malik Nabers again, this time for a 48-yard touchdown reception, to give the Giants a 37-34 advantage with just 25 seconds left in the game.
That would be enough time for the Cowboys’ offense, which picked up 21 yards and allowed Dallas to attempt a field goal to force overtime. Kicker Brandon Aubrey had no issue hitting the 64-yarder to send this game to OT.
After three straight punts to start overtime, Russell Wilson threw his first interception of the day, which eventually set up the game-winning field goal.
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Despite having clear offensive issues last Sunday, that was not the case for the Detroit Lions today as they downed the Chicago Bears 52-21, spoiling Ben Johnson’s return to Ford Field. Jared Goff looked like his old self, throwing for 334 yards and five touchdowns on just 23 completions.
The Lions were fantastic coming out of the gate, moving the ball 60 yards in a little under three minutes to score a touchdown and take a 7-0 lead. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had a 34-yard reception on that series, which almost matched his entire output from last week (45 yards).
The Bears answered right back with their own 79-yard scoring drive to tie things up 7-7. On that possession, quarterback Caleb Williams went five for six through the air for 54 yards and a 28-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Rome Odunze on a 3rd and 9. That was Odunze’s second touchdown catch of the season.
Amon-Ra St. Brown finished the game with nine catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns. His 32-yard catch-and-run on the Lions’ third drive of the game led to a one-yard touchdown run by running back David Montgomery to reclaim the lead 14-7.
After three drives that ended in a Bears turnover on downs, a missed field goal by the Lions, and an interception from Caleb Williams, Detroit’s offense got back on track. They ran the ball six times for 55 yards, which allowed quarterback Jared Goff to throw an eight-yard TD pass, increasing the Lions’ lead to 21-7.
Chicago didn’t falter in the face of adversity. The Bears picked up 57 yards in 2:53, which led to Rome Odunze’s second TD reception of the day, cutting Detroit’s lead to 21-14. With that score, Rome Odunze matched his receiving touchdown total from the 2024-25 season.
Detroit bounced back, scoring a touchdown with six seconds left in the first half to go back up by 14 points. That was Amon-Ra St. Brown’s first TD catch since Week 17 of last season.
The Lions completely outplayed the Bears in the second half. Detroit scored 17 unanswered points to take a 31-point lead in the fourth quarter. Though Chicago scored another touchdown, it would be too little too late.
Caleb Williams had a horrific afternoon after what looked like a promising start to the game. He finished the day with an interception and four sacks while being held to 207 passing yards, two passing TDs, and 27 rushing yards.
Los Angeles Rams @ Tennessee Titans
The Los Angeles Rams scored three second-half touchdowns after trailing at the break to beat the Tennessee Titans 33-19. Tennessee couldn’t keep pace with LA’s offense, which outgained the Titans by 187 yards.
After forcing a punt to start things off, the Rams were faced with a 4th and 1 from Tennessee’s 45 yard line. LA made an interesting choice to hand the ball off to wideout Puka Nacua, who took the hand-off to the house for a 7-0 advantage. That is the second rushing touchdown of Nacua’s young career.
Following a Rams field goal, Tennessee finally got on the board with a field goal of its own to make the score 10-3. Two drives later, number-one overall draft pick Cam Ward threw his first career touchdown pass, a nine-yarder to wide receiver Elic Ayomanor to even things up 10-10. Ward had 123 passing yards in the first half of this game after being held to just 112 yards in Week One.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw his first interception since December 22nd, 2024. The Titans took advantage of that mistake and connected on a 37-yard field goal, which gave Tennessee a 13-10 lead at the half.
Both teams exchanged field goals to start the third quarter. But it was Matthew Stafford who threw an eight-yard touchdown to redeem himself and put the Rams back on top 20-16.
The Titans had no way to stave off Los Angeles’ offense, which outscored Tennessee 13-3 in the final 15 minutes of this game to secure the 33-19 victory. One of those TDs was scored by wide receiver Davante Adams, his first touchdown reception as a member of the Rams.
Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets
The Buffalo Bills blew the doors off the New York Jets for a 30-10 win. On a day when Josh Allen didn’t look his best, the rushing attack was good for 224 yards and three touchdowns.
These teams looked like opposites on the first few drives. New York had a three-and-out and a lost fumble on their first two possessions. Meanwhile, Buffalo picked up 87 yards of offense and scored ten points to take a 10-0 lead.
Josh Allen suffered what appeared to be a nose injury, which caused him to miss one play. He would come back in, though, after being looked at by medical trainers, allowing the Bills to kick another field goal. On their next drive, running back James Cook scored his second rushing touchdown of the day – this one from 44 yards out – to give Buffalo a 20-point lead.
Buffalo kicked another field goal before moving the ball 74 yards in roughly seven minutes to score a four-yard rushing touchdown. That made it 30-3 to start the fourth quarter.
The Jets scored a touchdown on their final possession of the game to end what was otherwise a terrible afternoon. Quarterback Justin Fields was unable to finish the game after reportedly suffering a head injury.
San Francisco 49ers @ New Orleans Saints
The San Francisco 49ers sacked New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler on a 4th and 1 near midfield to put the Saints’ comeback attempt to bed as the 49ers won 26-21.
Following a missed field goal by the Saints and back-to-back punts, San Fran had a 16-play drive that ended with a TD pass from backup quarterback Mac Jones to tight end Luke Farrell to take a 6-0 lead. Jones has thrown at least one touchdown pass in the last five regular-season starts he has made dating back to last year, when he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. On their next offensive series, they moved the ball 39 yards to kick a field goal and go up 9-0 in the second quarter.
After two more consecutive punts, the Saints offense got on the board. They orchestrated a 13-play drive that was capped off with an 18-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Spencer Rattler, his first passing TD of the season. That cut the lead to 9-7.
Christian McCaffrey scored his first touchdown of the campaign as well. He caught a nine-yard Mac Jones pass near the edge of the end zone to increase the lead to 16-7 going into the break. That was McCaffrey’s first touchdown reception since Super Bowl LVIII on February 11th, 2024.
A promising drive by San Fran to start the third quarter was cut short by a Mac Jones fumble, which allowed the Saints to start their drive on the 49ers’ side of the field. They capitalized on that turnover with a three-yard touchdown pass by Spencer Rattler, making the score 16-14. This was Rattler’s first NFL game with multiple passing touchdowns.
San Francisco scored a field goal in the third quarter to take a 19-14 lead. After that, the defense forced another fumble, which eventually led to Mac Jones throwing a 42-yard touchdown pass to Juaun Jennings to go up 26-14. That was Jennings’ first touchdown reception of the season.
The Saints wouldn’t go away quietly, scoring a touchdown on their next possession to cut the score to 26-21. However, the scoring would stop there as the 49ers managed to force a turnover on downs with 1:03 left in the game to claim the victory.
New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins
The New England Patriots were able to cut what would have been a game-winning drive short after forcing a turnover on downs to beat the Dolphins 33-27 to move to 1-1.
Drake Maye looked fantastic today with 19 completions on 23 attempts for 230 yards, two passing TDs, 30 rushing yards, and a touchdown on the ground. In the first two series, he was seven for eight for 89 yards and two touchdowns. His 16-yard TD pass to wide receiver Kayshon Boutte made it 12-0 going into the second quarter after the Pats missed both of their extra point attempts.
Unlike last weekend, the Dolphins actually showed some life in the face of adversity. They cobbled together a ten-play, 83-yard drive that was capped off with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to wideout Jaylen Waddle, making it 12-7.
The Pats would kick a field goal to make it 15-7, but the ‘Phins reached the end zone with 33 seconds left in the half on a 29-yard catch-and-run by running back De’Von Achane to bring the score to 15-14 at the break. Achane had 122 total yards and a receiving touchdown on the afternoon.
Miami got out to a fast start in the second half. They scored field goals on two straight drives to go ahead 20-15 for their first lead of the season.
Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson willed his team back in front when he made an over-the-shoulder catch-and-run for 55 yards, which eventually resulted in a six-yard Drake Maye rushing touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, the Pats again led 23-20.
That’s when the special teams units came to life. The ‘Phins returned a fourth-quarter punt 74 yards for a touchdown to go back up 27-23. But the Pats answered right back with a 90-yard kick return TD on the very next play, making it 30-27.
After the Pats kicked another field goal to increase the score to 33-27, the Dolphins got the ball back with a chance to win the game. However, Tua Tagovailoa took a sack on fourth-down attempt, ending the game and Miami’s comeback attempt.
Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers
The Seattle Seahawks scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road 31-17. The Seahawks’ defense did a great job of containing Aaron Rodgers, who was held to just one passing touchdown on a day when he took three sacks and threw two interceptions.
After being held to zero touchdown passes in Week One, Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold threw a 21-yarder to wide receiver Tory Horton for his first TD pass as a member of the Seahawks. He went four for four on their first drive for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Sam Darnold’s day took a turn after that. Following a Steelers field goal to make it 7-3, Darnold threw a first-quarter interception, allowing Pittsburgh to narrow the gap with another field goal and make it 7-6. Darnold was picked off again in the second quarter, which set up a three-yard touchdown catch by wideout DK Metcalf against his former team to give the Steelers a 14-7 lead after a successful two-point conversion.
The Seahawks tied the game 14-14 on their first possession of the second half. Sam Darnold threw a touchdown pass to tight end AJ Barner to even things up. In his last three regular-season games, Barner has two TD catches.
The Steelers had a chance to once again take the lead. However, quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw an interception in the back of the end zone, his first since joining Pittsburgh. That came after running back Jaylen Warren took a short pass 65 yards to Seattle’s five yard line.
Another costly mistake hurt the Steelers in the fourth quarter. After the Seahawks took a 17-14 lead on a 54-yard field goal, Steelers rookie running back Kaleb Johnson accidentally made contact with the football on the ensuing kickoff. That live ball was recovered in the end zone by Seattle to give them a 24-14 advantage.
With a ten-point lead in the final frame, the Steelers answered with a field goal, but that wouldn’t be enough to keep pace with Seattle, which reached the end zone on a 19-yard scamper by running back Kenneth Walker III to make the score 31-17. Walker had 105 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens overcame a slow start to demolish the Cleveland Browns for a 41-17 victory. Quarterback Lamar Jackson made up for an ineffective rushing attack by throwing for 225 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Following a low-scoring first quarter that saw Baltimore kick a field goal, the Ravens blocked a punt in the second quarter, which set them up with the ball just outside of Cleveland’s red zone. Two plays later, quarterback Lamar Jackson hit wideout Tylan Wallace for a 15-yard strike to go up 10-0.
The Browns kicked a field goal just before halftime, but the Ravens responded with a field goal, an interception by the defense, and a Lamar Jackson passing touchdown to improve the score to 20-3 with less than five minutes gone in the third quarter.
Lamar Jackson connected with second-year wide receiver Devontez Walker for his second receiving touchdown of the day to extend the Ravens’ lead to 27-10. Coming into this contest, Walker had one career reception.
Joe Flacco came out flat in his return to Baltimore, the place where he once won a Super Bowl. He completed 25 of 45 passes for 199 yards, a passing touchdown, a lost fumble, and an interception.
Flacco was eventually replaced by rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel when this game was out of reach. The third-round draft pick would make the most of the opportunity, though, going three for three with 20 yards and a passing touchdown, the first of his pro career.
