Los Angeles Rams @ Chicago Bears preview
Two of the best offenses in the NFL meet in the divisional round of the playoffs on Sunday when the Chicaco Bears, who beat the Green Bay Packers 31-27 in the wild-card round, host the Los Angeles Rams, who beat the Carolina Panthers 34-31.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has a league-leading 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns this season, while counterpart and relative newcomer Caleb Williams totaled 3,942 passing yards and 27 touchdowns.
“All we care about is how we’re going to survive this round and reach the final four,” said Bears head coach Ben Johnson, who has defensive back Nick McCloud (groin) out and receiver Rome Odunze (foot) and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin (back) listed as questionable.
“Stafford’s got a tremendous feel for the game. He knows how to manipulate the defense and he’s got that knack for the dramatic.
“I see the similarities between the two at crunch time. [Williams] desperately wants to be great – he wants to be one of the best ever to play.
“I love how he’s wired as a person and competitor. He’s a big reason why we are where we are today. He’s going to be leading this franchise for a long time.”
Stafford is expected to overcome a sprained right index finger he suffered against the Panthers, while head coach Sean McVay said offensive lineman Kevin Dotson is making “great progress” after an ankle issue.
“I’ve been proud as hell of how Justin Dedich has battled, but the expectation is – and I know Kevin’s preparing – [that he will] go play this week.
“We’re going to really push that thing and see how he feels, with the optimism that there’s a good chance that he makes it.”
McVay believes tight end Terrance Ferguson (hamstring) and cornerback Josh Wallace (ankle) are “looking really good” after missing the wild-card game.
