It was lit! Stefon Diggs thrives on return to Buffalo as the New England Patriots secure shock win

Stefon Diggs revelled in the atmosphere after inspiring the New England Patriots to a shock win at the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football.

Diggs played for the Bills from 2020 to 2023 and his first return to Orchard Park cranked up the atmosphere towards a crackling conclusion as Andy Borregales slotted over a 52-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining to give the Patriots a 23-20 victory.

It ended the Bills’ 14-game winning streak and Diggs, who finished with 10 catches for 146 yards, was thrilled that his team had come through in such a hostile environment.

“It was lit. Electrifying,” he said of the atmosphere. “When it gets loud, it kind of gets quiet for me.

“It doesn’t bother me too much – they love you one day, they hate you the next, they can love you again. I spent a lot of time here. I respect the dynamic. Used to be here. I’m not here no more. I guess I miss you, too.”

Diggs hails Maye

Quarterback Drake Maye was the other standout performer for the Patriots, getting the better of Josh Allen with 273 passing yards including a clutch drive with seconds running out.

“I saw a young quarterback take a step in the right direction,” Diggs said. “They did a lot of comparisons during the week, and I feel like it’s a hell of a comparison to be compared to Josh Allen. But as you come into your own, Drake Maye has to be Drake Maye. I was just so proud of him coming in here and leading the team.”

The win takes the Patriots to 3-2 and coach Mike Vrabel was quick to highlight the importance of the Maye-Diggs connection.

“I’m proud of both of them,” Vrabel said. “Being able to emotionally come back here for Stef and being in this thing all week – a really good leader for us … And I think just a really gutty performance from Drake. I just continue to enjoy watching him grow and lead this football team.”

Bills frustrated by sloppy performance

The Bills were left frustrated by a sloppy performance littered with penalties and turnovers as the last remaining unbeaten record in the NFL disappeared.

“We didn’t play our game tonight, and that’s frustrating,” coach Sean McDermott said. “And this is a pivotal learning opportunity for us right here. So, there were some other moments where I just feel like maybe we were too cute at times. And just overall, we’ve got to look at some things and just be honest with ourselves and learn from it holistically.”
