Why Ronaldo, Antony & Sancho are absent from Man United squad to face Aston Villa
Erik ten Hag has provided an update on his personnel ranks
Explanations for the respective absences of a trio of high-profile names from Manchester United’s matchday squad to face Aston Villa have been provided on Thursday evening.
The Red Devils, of course, are set to return to action in short order.
Fresh off a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Unai Emery’s troops at the weekend, United have welcomed Aston Villa to Old Trafford, to this time lock horns in the third round of the EFL Cup.
Erik ten Hag, evidently, is not taking the clash lightly, having opted for a strong starting XI featuring the talents of the likes of Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

As alluded to above, though, it is not the names of those included in the hosts’ matchday setup which have piqued attentions ahead of kick-off in Manchester.
Instead, this honour has been reserved for a trio of Red Devils stars set to play no part.
Speaking to the media ahead of proceedings getting underway, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the trio’s respective omissions was put to Erik ten Hag.
And United’s boss went on to explain that both Ronaldo and Sancho are suffering with illness, whilst Antony has picked up an unspecified injury.
